LOGINRhys’s POV
Nyra was in my arms and that was all that mattered right now… the only thing that had held back my wolf from tearing Silas by his limbs. Silas let out another groan as Dante slammed him into the ground again. No one intervened but rather took their places at the sides of the hall letting Dante ruin this sick fucker. It was just Nyra and I standing amidst the chaos that never came too close. How had he gained so much power that he felt speaking to her in that manner could be justified? The good thing was that he once had her and lost her to our gain. And he should be thankful Dante was being merciful… judging from the look on Alpha king's face, that was the only reason he was still standing a free man. Nyra stirred as Silas reached for Dante’s hair and I held back a chuckle before pulling her even closer… if possible. She could never be close enough. The last time I had held her in my arms was back at the academy before our stupidity ruined what we shared… Slowly I leaned down to take in her scent. Fuck! She smelled like the temptation I remembered… except now there was this underlying darkness mixed with sweetness. Ash. Rage. My wolf prowled restlessly at the thought of corrupting something so sweet. Mine… my eyes caught Dante’s… OURS! What Nyra didn’t know was that we had never truly let go… Goddess, we tried so much to tuck in that sense of possessiveness after the bet had bit us in our faces. But we knew we had hurt her and there was no going back… not after she had cried all night. The next morning when she left, we hadn’t stopped her… we convinced ourselves leaving her alone was the right thing to do. She had been too innocent back then… too soft for men like us and didn’t deserve to mix with a cursed bloodline. Our darkness would have ruined her eventually. After her, we hadn’t been with another… there wasn’t any scent that drove my wolf this insane. So we watched from the sidelines while Silas slithered his way into her life. The thought alone made my jaw tighten. We were cowards. And as such turned our faces away as the sunflower we had loved disappeared into a shadow of herself and convinced ourselves she was better off without us. If she hadn’t made the first move… we wouldn’t have done anything today. The woman who walked into this hall earlier on was no longer the innocent one who once looked us with trust while writhing under us nor the one that followed meekly behind Silas… She was different. In a pleasing way. And standing here now with her pressed against me, while wearing a wedding dress meant to be removed by another man. I realized we should have never let her go in the first place. The battered body of Silas landed at her feet. The sight brought a smile to my face, blood spilled by his busted lips while one of his eyes had already been swollen shut… the sight of his broken nose was merely the finishing touch. Still, the fool tried getting back up. Pathetic. “ENOUGH!” the Alpha King’s voice thundered through the hall just as Dante launched himself at Silas. Nyra stood unfazed. There was nothing sexier than watching our woman stay calm in the face of violence without flinching. She was going to be the end of me. The thought of ruining her made my wolf practically salivate… I was such a sucker for her. It took the whole force to hold Dante back because once he had tasted blood… it blurred the lines between reason and violence. Especially now it involved her. I watched as his chest heaved fast as they restrained him, with his eyes locked on Silas like he was still debating whether or not to finish him. Honestly? I wouldn't have stopped. My wolf snarled as Silas, all bloodied up and barely conscious, now being held in safety threw glares at Nyra. Across the hall, nobles whispered among themselves while servants scrambled to clear the hall. Typical. Nothing entertained the wereworld more than public humiliation and a topic to fill their ears for the time being. As she stepped away from me I felt my wolf pant restlessly almost as though he could sense my fear of her leaving once again. She turned to face the nobles and lowered her head in a bow, “I apologize you had witnessed this but it was necessary so everyone would see the man I was about meeting in his true nature.” I knew these men and women were itching so badly to bombard her with questions but they didn’t.. couldn’t.. not when Dante was now standing beside her. “I had stayed silent for so long for the sake of the child but now… I know what we had wasn’t love hence why I decided it wasn’t wise to go ahead with his wedding.” I hated to see her head bowed to these peopke but I knew it was a necessity. A queen needed the sympathy of her people before demanding their obedience. Still it was only going to happen once. Never again should she show anyone the top of her head. I searched for her slutty sister before I remembered that somewhere between the chaos I had seen her scramble out with her tail tucked in between her legs. Silas must have been an easy pick because while we were with Nyra, she had tried and failed so woefully. Perhaps if we have ended her then like we wanted to, Nyra wouldn’t have made her way back to us. “The wedding is dismissed and on your way out, you’d still get your party favours as an apology to what transpired today” Her voice wasn’t loud nor did it need to be. “I hope I made up for cancelling the wedding with this scene.” Now she held her head up high, authority rolled off her voice in a way that left no room for argument. Following her words, the guards promptly led people towards the exit. As the crowd slowly began dispersing, Silas was dragged away. We stood with her until the crack in her defiance. It looked as though the adrenaline she has been running on had been exhausted. Dante noticed it too because he immediately said, “We’re escorting you back.” The guards the Alpha king had entrusted to stand guard looked at each other unsure but no one dared to object. Nor did anyone move. Nyra just started walking ahead to which Dante and I followed suit in silence. Despite the fatigue of the day and that dress wearing her down, she held her shoulder up high. That dress… My eyes trailed down the curve of her body. Following the fitted material taht hugged her hourglass figure down to her waist before settling shamelessly on the way her hips swayed as she walked. Fuck. Silas was going to unveil her if she hadn’t… I felt a nudge and turned to my brother. He just shook his head once, like he could already tell exactly where my thoughts had gone. And annoyingly enough… I knew he was right. This wasn't the time to wallow on what we would have missed… …what we would have likely spent the rest of our lives regretting. Nyra had kissed us and made her claim, how we used this second chance mattered. One thing was sure, there was no way I was ever letting her out of my sight.Nyra's POVMy breath caught for only a second as Silas walked in looking every bit as confident as ever. The last time I’d seen him was when he’d scurried away after Rhys’s threat. This time, however, he didn’t look at me.And I was certain it wasn’t because he couldn’t but rather because he was still trying to come to terms with the fact that I… I was sitting exactly where I was.The hearing began and his petition was read aloud. The room was calm as his accusation rang in the hall and by the time they were done, the room felt colder than it had been earlier.Father's expression remained unreadable as he said, “Present your defense.”Rhys was the one that stood for me.He calmly laid the first stack of documents before the council, making sure the guards had given every member before he started.“I won’t begin by defending a woman whose work has yet to speak for her.”“Instead, I’ll rather start with the legacy left behind by the man who occupied her administrative seat.”A sigh esca
Nyra’s POVDad left to speak with the elders, leaving me alone with the twins. And no matter how many times I tried to deter them just so I could have a moment to myself, they remained glued to my heels.I tried walking towards my car but Dante blocked the path, redirecting me to their limousine.I sighed and simply followed suit.I had a feeling they were using me as their restraint. I’d watched both of them nearly lose their cool earlier, and honestly, I didn’t want anything stressing me out even more.My mind had been more occupied with them than with the fact that Vanessa had just walked away scot-free.Dante held the door open while Rhys offered me his hand as though we hadn’t spent the past few days arguing, nearly killing people, surviving assassination attempts.Ridiculous clingy men.I accepted Rhys's hand anyway. His fingers wrapped around mine briefly before helping me inside. After waking up to find that both of them had stayed awake all night watching over me… I didn’t tr
Rhys's POVA gold, intricately crafted bracelet. And judging from the gasps that echoed round the room, everyone in this hall recognized.Myself included.Vanessa had worn it since the time her mother had dumped her at the Alpha kings door, during the time she had tried to get closer to us… she had gone on and on, telling the story of how her mother had left it to her as a farewell gift. The maid held it up desperately.“Ms. Vanessa had given this to me as a form of collateral until I got the job done.”Whispers erupted throughout the hall.My eyes stayed on Vanessa hoping she’d let out a guilty emotion slip but she looked so calm and just stared at the bracelet without a hint of panic.“That bracelet is your proof?” She scoffed, eyeing the maid up before turning to Nyra, “I've been searching for that for months.”Her voice remained steady as she continued, “I still don't know why I have to be dragged into this psycho killer plan… she must have stolen that from my room and now wants t
Rhys's POVI didn’t trust Dante to act accordingly. The look in his eyes the day before was enough to tell me he couldn’t keep his wolf in check. He was still walking the thin line between control and chaos… his wolf and common sense. One wrong word from anyone or one dirty move, and his wolf would take over.We didn’t bother catching up with Nyra immediately. She was still tense. And if I knew her enough to be sure that, she needed this space to rather herself more than our company.Silence settled between us as we walked. My eyes drifted to Dante again, assessing him properly this time and this time, he looked calm. For now, that was enough.I exhaled slowly and turned my attention back to Nyra. She walked a short distance ahead of us with her chin held high. But knowing her, this was just a facade.Beneath her poise was glaring exhaustion… it sat in the subtle stiffness of her shoulders. And then the subtle glances at every corner we passed… she was barely holding herself together
Dante's POVI couldn't sleep… My wolf refused to settle further, adding to my paranoia of closing my eyes and not seeing her.Every rustle of leaves beyond the windows had him on high alert…Ready to lose our cool on another fool who wants to try their luck. The memory of that knife barely missing Nyra’s frozen figure flashed in my head every time I closed my eyes.It had all been too fucking close. And once again, I feared for what would have happened if we hadn't been alerted. After watching and confirming that even the servants had retreated back to their quarters, I moved my focus back to Nyra.I… We had lived that life for the longest of time, regretting why we had let her go.The thought that someone there was already plotting to end her life was scary.I was the big bad wolf and all my life I had never known fear… I was the feared.Nyra was the only one that had caused my heart to skip beats at the mere thought of being away… talk more of her dying. The only sound that filled m
Nyra's POV Of course it had to be my dearest step-sister. I wasn't surprised…not even a little. I had known it was either one of the two and judging from the timing of the event, it was obvious they weren't working together. If they had been, Silas wouldn't have submitted an appeal for my removal on the same day Vannessa sends her dog. Dad sighed… his action was the only thing that broke the silence, he wouldn't rub it in but he had always told me the truth about Vanessa. Now I can see it hasn't always been about wanting more attention and power. Vanessa wanted me out… and it was scary to know that had been her every thought from the start… I had thought it was Silas with ambition. But now I didn't want Silas even after she had him… she had lost her damn mind. My eyes strayed to the maid that was shaking in her boots and I wondered how Nessa had gotten her to repeat the same act twice. In both my lives, she had proven that there was no line she wouldn't cross to ge
Nyra’s POVPain. That was the first thing I felt, not the tearing agony from before… but a sharp, lingering heat in my chest, like something had burned its way into me and refused to fade.My body jerked violently as I sucked in a breath.“Nyra… are you ready?” I heard my sister's familiar voice sa
Nyra's POVI had died on an operating table after being led to believe I was saving the life of my husband's son."Are you ready, baby?"Silas's voice was soft, almost tender, as his fingers brushed gently through my hair. Anyone watching would think he was a devoted husband, worried for his wife.
Nyra’s POVDante Vale kissed me.His lips on mine brought back memories I didn’t want to entertain because once before, feelings like these had pushed me into the arms of the man who killed me.Why weren’t they always like this? All over me and showing me they wanted me or perhaps it was because I
Nyra’s POV‘Why do I feel like there were a whole lot of things that had happened and…’“You have questions,” Serenyx’s voice echoed calmly in my mind, “and you will have your answers. But first… let’s give Silas a taste of what’s coming.”Her words boosted my morale.‘How?’ I asked. She chuckled s
