Rhys’s POV

I noticed the tremble in her fingers and held back from wrapping my hands around hers… she was already doing a good job holding herself together.

The moment we entered her chambers and the doors shut behind us, she let out a loud sigh.

Her shoes followed next.

I just leaned back against the door, my eyes never leaving her.

She sat in front of the dressing mirror and her eyes met mine for a brief second.

My heart had missed a beat in that second…

Not wanting her to notice myself being caught unawares, a smirk filled my lips just before she looked away.

Dante broke the silence.

“What game are you playing, Alpha princess?”

There was no softness in Dante’s voice.

And if I didn’t know any better I’d think he didn’t want this.

But I did.

I had seen the pain in his eyes as we watched her walk down the aisle confidently to a groom that wasn’t us.

…Seen him clutch his hands itching to silence Silas from the moment he opened his gutter mouth.

…Watched as he avoided the fight ever coming close to where she stood.

And seen how his eyes drew circles around her body.

She was no longer that little fragile girl we knew… Nyra had grown all in the right places.

My eyes slowly trailed up and down before I forced myself to look away.

I was losing control I desperately clung onto.

Because the urge to drag her into my lap and remind her exactly who she belonged to was becoming increasingly difficult to suppress.

Unaffected by the tension she had stirred in this room, we watched as she calmly removed the rest of her jewelry before finally answering.

“I need you both as my allies.”

I scoffed.

Allies?

After all these while, that was what she wanted from us?

“In that hall filled with over a hundred men, I know you too will be capable enough to withstand whatever will be thrown back.”

“Allies?” Dante repeated coldly.

Her gaze finally lifted to me and then back at Dante.

“No, I need powerful mates that can stand beside me.”

My wolf growled in delight.

“You two are feared, respected and well known amongst men that matter,” she continued.

A bitter laugh escaped her lips as she said, “My people have always known Silas and I know they trust him even more than they do me.”

“For years he stood in front of them while I hid behind him pretending I was content being the traditional wife.”

Pain flickered briefly across her face before disappearing again.

“The people I’m meant to lead don’t know me,” she admitted more quietly, almost to herself than to us.

“And I know this display just showed that Silas is a cheat and not a poor choice to replace me… he had already planted that seed here.”

Something uncomfortable twisted inside my chest hearing that.

Because she was right.

Nyra Thorne had spent years reducing herself into something smaller for a man who never deserved her in the first place.

Not that we deserved her.

But I would never look at do as much as look in the direction of another woman.

“I need to reclaim my authority… I need the packs under Blood Moon to see me as their queen, before Silas destroys what little control I have left.”

Her eyes sharpened, staring at the reflection with fury.

“And people follow strength.”

Now we were getting somewhere.

“You want us beside you because people fear us,” I finally said.

Her eyes locked onto mine, “Yes.”

Good girl.

“And what exactly do we stand to gain from this arrangement?” I asked.

Her eyes lit up.

“I’ll help elevate the Vale name more further than you stand, from influence to political authority and most importantly access to the throne.”

I almost laughed.

She was trying to negotiate with predators like a businesswoman.

Cute.

I pushed away from the wall slowly and stalked towards her.

“After everything you think power is what we want from you?”

Nyra frowned slightly.

And for the first time since the ceremony began, her confidence cracked with uncertainty.

I exchanged a glance with Dante and his expression darkened.

One look was enough to pass the message.

Nyra watched our conversation in silence.

We had already made the decision long ago, back when she was still too innocent for men like us.

We had let her go once because despite our obsession, we knew what darkness lived inside us could ruin us.

She looked away and reached for her zip, I watched as she struggled.

Then, her eyes lifted to mine through the mirror.

“Rhys, help me with this.”

This was the first time she was referring to me by my name since the ceremony.

I nodded.

Finally the reminder of our cowardice was being taken off.

Then Dante said, “We’ll help you princess.”

Relief flashed across her face too quickly.

Cute again to assume that was what we wanted.

“But not on your terms, we have just one condition.”

Her brows furrowed.

“What condition?”

“You marry us.” I was now standing behind her.

Nyra stared at me like she wasn’t sure she’d heard correctly.

Dante remained unmoved.

“If you want us beside you, then we want all of you.”

Heat crept up across her face immediately lighting up her cheeks

‘Mine’, My wolf practically chanted the word.

“You said you needed powerful mates,” I murmured softly, helping her up to stand in front of me and face Dante.

My fingers brushed lightly against the exposed skin at the back of her neck as I gathered her hair over one shoulder.

A gasp escaped her lips.

She was driving me crazy as her pheromones were starting to act up.

Then I slowly dragged the zipper down.

My eyes never left her back as her slender back was slowly revealed.

Goddess.

My control on my wolf’s wants strained painfully…

“We would be available at your beck and call.” Dante said, closing the gap between them.

I bit back the urge to drag my tongue across the spot I intended to mark before I bent to whisper, “But we do not share what belongs to us, Alpha Princess.”

Nyra's POVMy breath caught for only a second as Silas walked in looking every bit as confident as ever. The last time I’d seen him was when he’d scurried away after Rhys’s threat. This time, however, he didn’t look at me.And I was certain it wasn’t because he couldn’t but rather because he was still trying to come to terms with the fact that I… I was sitting exactly where I was.The hearing began and his petition was read aloud. The room was calm as his accusation rang in the hall and by the time they were done, the room felt colder than it had been earlier.Father's expression remained unreadable as he said, “Present your defense.”Rhys was the one that stood for me.He calmly laid the first stack of documents before the council, making sure the guards had given every member before he started.“I won’t begin by defending a woman whose work has yet to speak for her.”“Instead, I’ll rather start with the legacy left behind by the man who occupied her administrative seat.”A sigh esca

Nyra’s POVDad left to speak with the elders, leaving me alone with the twins. And no matter how many times I tried to deter them just so I could have a moment to myself, they remained glued to my heels.I tried walking towards my car but Dante blocked the path, redirecting me to their limousine.I sighed and simply followed suit.I had a feeling they were using me as their restraint. I’d watched both of them nearly lose their cool earlier, and honestly, I didn’t want anything stressing me out even more.My mind had been more occupied with them than with the fact that Vanessa had just walked away scot-free.Dante held the door open while Rhys offered me his hand as though we hadn’t spent the past few days arguing, nearly killing people, surviving assassination attempts.Ridiculous clingy men.I accepted Rhys's hand anyway. His fingers wrapped around mine briefly before helping me inside. After waking up to find that both of them had stayed awake all night watching over me… I didn’t tr

  • The Tyrant Alphas' Vengeful Luna    Chapter 21

Rhys's POVI didn’t trust Dante to act accordingly. The look in his eyes the day before was enough to tell me he couldn’t keep his wolf in check. He was still walking the thin line between control and chaos… his wolf and common sense. One wrong word from anyone or one dirty move, and his wolf would take over.We didn’t bother catching up with Nyra immediately. She was still tense. And if I knew her enough to be sure that, she needed this space to rather herself more than our company.Silence settled between us as we walked. My eyes drifted to Dante again, assessing him properly this time and this time, he looked calm. For now, that was enough.I exhaled slowly and turned my attention back to Nyra. She walked a short distance ahead of us with her chin held high. But knowing her, this was just a facade.Beneath her poise was glaring exhaustion… it sat in the subtle stiffness of her shoulders. And then the subtle glances at every corner we passed… she was barely holding herself together

Dante's POVI couldn't sleep… My wolf refused to settle further, adding to my paranoia of closing my eyes and not seeing her.Every rustle of leaves beyond the windows had him on high alert…Ready to lose our cool on another fool who wants to try their luck. The memory of that knife barely missing Nyra’s frozen figure flashed in my head every time I closed my eyes.It had all been too fucking close. And once again, I feared for what would have happened if we hadn't been alerted. After watching and confirming that even the servants had retreated back to their quarters, I moved my focus back to Nyra.I… We had lived that life for the longest of time, regretting why we had let her go.The thought that someone there was already plotting to end her life was scary.I was the big bad wolf and all my life I had never known fear… I was the feared.Nyra was the only one that had caused my heart to skip beats at the mere thought of being away… talk more of her dying. The only sound that filled m

Nyra's POV Of course it had to be my dearest step-sister. I wasn't surprised…not even a little. I had known it was either one of the two and judging from the timing of the event, it was obvious they weren't working together. If they had been, Silas wouldn't have submitted an appeal for my removal on the same day Vannessa sends her dog. Dad sighed… his action was the only thing that broke the silence, he wouldn't rub it in but he had always told me the truth about Vanessa. Now I can see it hasn't always been about wanting more attention and power. Vanessa wanted me out… and it was scary to know that had been her every thought from the start… I had thought it was Silas with ambition. But now I didn't want Silas even after she had him… she had lost her damn mind. My eyes strayed to the maid that was shaking in her boots and I wondered how Nessa had gotten her to repeat the same act twice. In both my lives, she had proven that there was no line she wouldn't cross to ge
