The moon goddess had forsaken me, so I thought. Spending three months being locked up and serving as the pack healer made my yearning for revenge simmer down but not forgotten. It was harder than I thought it would be. I have been kept under tight security so there wasn’t enough room for me to plan. When they came to drag me out one night saying a child was dying and only I could save him, I was certain that my chance to get back at the traitor had come. But I was wrong.
Richard ensured not to call on me when he falls ill. I hear he goes out of the pack to seek a solution. He must fear what I might do to him after our last encounter in the woods. I hear his ear still hasn’t healed totally.
Meeting Alpha Vincent that day at the clinic, I felt his energy and knew that we were mates. My almost nonexistent wolf’s energy soared that day after so long. But I couldn’t get too excited because there was no way I would be allowed such goodwill. That was what I thought.
Not until I was taken out of the dungeon, not to treat any ailing patient but to walk freely. My mate turned out to be an Alpha, not just a random person. He was able to strike a deal with Alpha Richard. One of them is that I must never step foot into the Ridgestone pack again. I do not mind because of the painful memories I have of the place.
However, that won’t stop me from getting back at Richard. Since I am going to become a Luna, it is only a matter of time before I find a way back to pay Richard in his own coin.
“Please come with me, my lady. The Alpha is waiting for you.” Ivan who had escorted me to the pack said, leading the way.
I followed him feeling anxious. Vincent had sent me a letter before he left for his pack two days ago. Assuring me that we would be together soon. That still didn’t convince me until he had sent Ivan to come get me and bring me to him safely. Tears laced my eyes as I walked through the hallway.
I had almost forgotten what it felt like to be free. I keep jolting at every sound and the guards walking by make me fidget for the fear of being dragged back to the dungeon. My life has witnessed so much darkness in such a short time that I fear what the light brings forth.
However, things have finally taken a blissful turn when I least expected it and that is good enough. I can finally thank the goddess for not forsaking me.
“We are here,” Ivan announced, knocking on the door slightly.
“Come in,” Vincent replied behind the door and my heart leaped in response.
Taking in a deep breath, I turned the doorknob knob letting myself in with my head bowed meekly.
“Finally, you are here,” Vincent uttered standing up with his arms wide open to embrace me.
My toes curled in excitement the moment I felt his arms around me. Just when I thought of reciprocating the action. He retreated, brows furrowed.
“Is something wrong?” I inquired.
Vincent blinked, leaning close to sniff me. I sniffed myself but there wasn’t any odd smell coming from me. He pulled me closer, sniffing my nape like he intended to get high on my scent.
Just when I thought this was a playful trick, he pushed me roughly backwards. “What the hell?”
I gasped in shock, getting on my feet quickly. “What is the matter? Did you smell something?”
His friendly face had morphed into a vicious scowl. “It is more of the fact that I can’t smell anything. I thought it was strange at first that your scent wasn’t strong, but I felt it was all in the spur of the moment. Are you wolfless?”
The question made me gulp hard as I didn’t have a direct response to that.
“Answer me!” He yelled causing me to jolt in shock.
My lips quivered, palms sweaty as I tried to find the words. “I….I don’t know. I used to have a wolf. Maybe, she is just shy?”
“Are you crazy?” Vincent snapped. “Do you think we are having a guessing game here?”
“That is not what I meant. I….”
“Shut the hell up!” He gritted, running his hands through his hair in frustration. “What have I gotten myself into? To think I went all out for a weak, spineless mate like you? How can you not have a wolf?”
I don’t know where the tears came from, they just began rolling down my cheeks. “Please, Vincent. I can explain.” I begged.
“Explain what? Do you expect me to take someone like you who can’t protect herself talk more of protecting others as my Luna? Of what use will you be to me when you have no wolf? Oh my goodness!”
Wiping off the tears quickly I tried to touch him but he slapped my hand so hard, I felt it in my brain. “Vincent…..”
“Call my name one more time and I will have you buried alive.” He didn’t sound like the one who was willing to welcome me just a few minutes ago. “Because of you, I gave out a precious land to that bastard called Richard. Just because I thought you were a treasure worth having. But you are just a good-for-nothing bitch!”
“Please don’t say that to me.” I whimpered.
“Who are you to tell me what to do? Who the hell are you?” He bellowed, his eyes flaming in fury.
I stumbled backwards, sobbing. Vincent cursed relentlessly. Pacing the room back and forth. In the middle of the mess, there was a light knock behind the door. The person didn’t wait for a response before opening the door.
I turned to see a pretty lady with a cold gaze. She stared me down before walking casually towards Vincent. I was expecting him to tell her to leave because he was with his mate. Instead, she wrapped her arm around his neck and kissed him.
“Hey, baby.” She cooed. I was still waiting for Vincent to tell her off, but instead, he kissed her back. Both of them turned to look at me. I stood still, blinking like a fool. “Who is she, Vin?”
I felt a bit hopeful as I locked eyes with Vincent, begging him with every fiber in me not to turn away from me now. He is my only hope.
“Our new maid.” He uttered with conviction.
“M…maid?” I stuttered. “Y…you mean to say Mate right?” I inquired in a shaky voice.
“Do you have a death wish?” He growled and the lady giggled. “Better not do anything stupid.” Vincent hissed making for the door with the lady hand in hand.
Still in disbelief, I hurried after them, reaching for Vincent to tell him this can’t be the end. I cannot afford to be locked away again while Richard lives freely.
“Vin…” he didn’t let the words leave my lips before shoving me away like I was some piece of paper.
“Touch me one more time and I will make your entire life miserable.” He sneered, walking away.
My legs wobbled, giving way to the ground as tears blinded me, his words ripping me into shreds.
Calvin“Are you kidding me right now? Clara, you didn’t mention that you will have to spend the night out today.” I blurted into the phone, ruffling my hair.Clara giggled on the other end of the line. “Calvin dont be so dramatic. It is a research. Of course we expected that there is a chance of us staying out late.”“That makes absolutely no sense. How are you certain the place is safe enough for you two? It would have been nice if you told me earlier. Some guards could have accompanied you.”“I will have our location sent if that will make you relieved. I will be fine, Calvin. Stop stressing.” She urged in a calm tone.I inhaled deeply, “alright then. Send the location and my men will find you two. We will talk again tonight, okay?”&nbs
Author’s POVHer deafening yell echoed the room as Janice trashed through everything that stood in her way. The room looked like a complete mess. Exhausted, she plopped into the beanbag next to her holding her head with both palms. Derek’s words kept playing in her head and she has only Amelia to blame. She keeps acting all innocent, trying to snatch her son away from her.“That is what happens when you trust paupers like her.” Her wolf stated.Janice ruffled her hair, breathing heavily. She would have to find a way to get at Clara no matter what it will take. Amelia can’t have it all. When she is done getting Clara out of the way, Calvin will also have no other choice but to give up his position as the Alpha. She wouldn’t lose this time after holding on for so many years.A light knock came from
Author’s POVA loud yawn escaped Derek’s lips as he walked down the stairs, scratching his eyes. He had slept in late after almost working himself to the bone the day before. When the mail about the huge project had come in and he had showed Calvin, they were happy about the benefits. But when they learn that they had to provide a blueprint within few hours which didn’t seem professional, they were willing to risk it for the offer. Thankfully the first two drafts was accepted. Derek loves working alongside Calvin because of his tenacity.Making his way to the kitchen, completely distracted by himself. Derek almost screamed out in horror when he found his mother right there cooking.“What the hell, ma? What are you doing here?” He questioned with a frown.Janice didnt flinch as she flipped the egg in th
Clara“Clara.” Calvin placed a soft kiss on my face draping a jacket over me, before sitting next to me. “What are you doing out here in the cold?”“I wanted to just be alone with my thoughts. It’s been a long day.” I replied.“Yeah, I had a packed day too. How is the proposal coming up with Lena?”“I think we have everything that we need jotted down. Lena says she would put it together and we can cross check it a few more times. She is resting now. I didn’t realize we could not have Derek look it over because he is one of the council members. Is that true?”Calvin nodded slowly, “yes, it is. He could help you under the radar, but it wouldn’t be a good path to follow.”I rub
ClaraMy anger felt permanent and it made my chest pound. I really thought Calvin was going to be on my side and see from my point of view. I had discussed my intention with Lena before going to him, she was hopeful too that we could get him to put Janice in her place. But he acted I. The opposite. I never would have imagined that happening. I feel betrayed. To show that I am quite offended, I have ignored him all day and now that we are at the dinner table, I refused to sit next to him. It would have driven me crazy if Arya sat next to him and start acting out. But I was willing to pay the price just to show my defiant side. Thankfully, she is not around. His eyes trailed my every move. I paid no mind, only responding to whatever Amelia and Lena said. Janice soon joined us and the table felt awkward again. Lady Amelia didn’t quite seem like herself.&n
CalvinI could feel my face shining brighter than usual when the door opened and gave way to Clara, looking radiant that she was this morning.“Hey, baby.” I drawled, gesturing for her to come into my arms. With a shy smile, she sat on my thigh wrapping her arm around my neck with her face buried in my neck. I kissed her cheek. “Is this you missing me and regretting that you insisted I get to work rather than be in bed all day with you?” I teased.Clara giggled, throwing her head to the back. “Dont get ahead of yourself. I just thought to come say hi.”“Just like that? Then I guess you have got a gift for me.”She pulled my nose playfully. “Stop it already. You and your sister are the same. Pulling my poor legs.”&nbs
Chapter 34Calvin“I can smell the richness of the spicy drumsticks that I would have here.” Derek announced as we got out of the car.I arched my brows to take a look at the place. I was wondering why he did
