Clara

“You need to hasten up. The Alpha and Lady Isla will be back soon from their morning walk to eat.” Mabel instructed while I arranged the plates on the table. I have been corrected like five different times before I got it right.

Vincent wasn’t joking when he said I was going to become a maid. A mere omega who cleaned the house. I was assigned to Mabel the head servant to show me around as I was to clean up the Alpha’s quarters. When he introduced me to Mabel, Vincent said I was an exchange for a debt. All this in my face, breaking my heart like he didn’t care.

I learned later on that the lady who kissed him was his lover, Isla. She is deeply rooted in his life that she has a room to herself in his quarters. The world I imagined was to become mine came crashing down before I could put it together.

It is safe to say the goddess has forgotten about me. If she ever listened to my cries, she wouldn’t have allowed this to happen to me. Vincent went from wanting me around him to hating my very existence. My life is so awful.

From being a princess with loving parents to being labeled a murderer then finding my mate and losing him again all in three years. There is absolutely nothing to hope for. The heartbreak I felt from losing my parents had intensified with losing my mate. Nothing seems to be working in my favor.

I always had a wolf, I shifted many times and ran through the woods with my mother. Beta Richard took it away from me by subduing my wolf with wolfsbane. I never knew a day would come when I would have to pay the price for the death of my wolf.

My eyes burned from unshed tears. Crying all night on an empty stomach had dried me up. In the midst of my turmoil, Mabel had come to get me as early as possible to clean the quarters and have the breakfast table ready for the Alpha and his lover.

The thought of those two together crippled me. I would have preferred if he had rejected me directly. Maybe I would be dead from the heartbreak and that would have saved me from the horror I am being put through. Can’t help but think the dungeon was a better place. This is outright torture.

As my mate, shouldn’t he have sympathy towards me? Shouldn’t he love me regardless of my flaws? I have heard stories of people who didn’t have wolves and found their mates. But I am one of the unlucky ones it seems.

Isla and Vincent soon arrived. She was all over him, acting like she would fuck him if he asked her to bend over right at the table. Vincent didn’t even spare me a glance. She was generous to throw me a hateful glare. I stood on the side waiting for Mabel to instruct me.

“Refill their glasses,” Mabel whispered in my ear. M

With shaky hands I stepped forward, pouring into the glasses. Thankfully nothing spilled until I was done. Just as I dropped the jug, Isla let out a shriek. Everyone looked her way startled.

Vincent pushed past me to get to her. “What’s wrong, baby?”

She pointed at me, “This witch just poured the whole thing on me.”

My lashes fluttered rapidly, eyes darting around to find who it was she was pointing at. When it appeared there wasn’t anyone, I pointed at myself. “Me?”

“Yes, you. You intentionally poured the wine on me. She just ruined my attire.” Isla whimpered.

“Did you pour the drink on her?” Vincent snarled at me.

I swallowed with difficulty, looking at Isla. “I didn’t do anything to you.”

“Of course you did!” She snapped, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

It won’t take a genius to know that she was trying to set me up.

“I swear I didn’t….” A nerve-wracking slap landed on my cheek courtesy of Vincent. “Vincent,” I mumbled in a dazed expression, holding onto my face.

“How dare you try to deny what you did?” He queried. “If she said you poured the drink then you did it. I bet you couldn’t stand how happy she was and your devilish self wanted to ruin her mood.”

“But I…..” words failed me. I couldn’t come up with anything to defend myself.

“Say one more thing and I won’t hold back.”

“I didn’t do it. Why would you hit me?” I sobbed.

“Did you just question my action?” His eyes twitched like he was about to lose his mind. “Everyone of you should leave.” He ordered.

Mabel and the rest of the maids filed out of the dining room. Isla also got up but not without kissing him on the cheek. I took that as my cue to leave too, I didn’t get far before Vincent pulled me back roughly.

“Where do you think you are going? I am not done with you.” He seethed.

I shut my eyes tightly, struggling to breathe. “Please, Vincent. You know I didn’t do anything wrong. She lied against me and you still went ahead to hit me. Why are you treating me this way?”

He scoffed with scorn. “You are so pathetic. Seeing you reminds me of the mistake that I will forever regret. I know you are jealous of Isla, wishing you were the one next to me. It is why you poured the drink on her. What gives a nobody like you the right to harm my girl?”

I wasn’t expected to respond to him because the next minute he slapped me so hard I ended up on the cold floor. Confusion enveloped me. The reason for this assault was strange to me.

“How did I get so unlucky to be entangled with someone like you? What did I do wrong to end up with a weak mate like you?” He snarled, pulling me roughly to him.

Vincent gripped my neck. I struggled to break free, slapping his hand. “I hate the sight of you. Never have I had a mistake stare me in the face so much. I wish I could send you back to where you come from. But I will be mocked and I cannot allow that!” He yelled in my face.

I squealed in his grip, struggling to get out of it. My life was beginning to flash so fast in front of me.

“The urge to hurt you consumes me like wildfire. I want you to live the rest of your life in misery and regret for fooling me.” He growled, tightening his grip.

I kicked my legs, begging in a muffled tone to be freed. When I thought it was going to be over, he let go pushing me to the floor again. I lay there, curled up in a ball. My body was too weak to attempt standing up.

Vincent leaned over, glaring at me like he wasn’t satisfied with what he had done. A snide smile appeared on his face mouthing the words that I thought I was ready for. Each word pierces into my heart like a dagger.

“I, Vincent James, reject you as my mate.” With that, he walked off.

I heard a snap inside me like a rope was cut off. My chest tightened painfully as his words echoed continuously in my ear. Wanted to go after him, but my bones seemed to have turned to mush. I fell to my knees clawing at the floor while struggling to breathe. The world around me began to tilt, snatching the air from my lungs. My wolf growled endlessly, fighting to get to the surface as she refused to accept the rejection. This is so unfair. What did I do wrong?

Burying my face in the cold floor as the pain intensified, a heart-wrenching howl escaped my lips. His rejection is tearing me apart over and over again. Death would have been a better option.

Calvin“Are you kidding me right now? Clara, you didn’t mention that you will have to spend the night out today.” I blurted into the phone, ruffling my hair.Clara giggled on the other end of the line. “Calvin dont be so dramatic. It is a research. Of course we expected that there is a chance of us staying out late.”“That makes absolutely no sense. How are you certain the place is safe enough for you two? It would have been nice if you told me earlier. Some guards could have accompanied you.”“I will have our location sent if that will make you relieved. I will be fine, Calvin. Stop stressing.” She urged in a calm tone.I inhaled deeply, “alright then. Send the location and my men will find you two. We will talk again tonight, okay?”&nbs

Clara“Clara.” Calvin placed a soft kiss on my face draping a jacket over me, before sitting next to me. “What are you doing out here in the cold?”“I wanted to just be alone with my thoughts. It’s been a long day.” I replied.“Yeah, I had a packed day too. How is the proposal coming up with Lena?”“I think we have everything that we need jotted down. Lena says she would put it together and we can cross check it a few more times. She is resting now. I didn’t realize we could not have Derek look it over because he is one of the council members. Is that true?”Calvin nodded slowly, “yes, it is. He could help you under the radar, but it wouldn’t be a good path to follow.”I rub

ClaraMy anger felt permanent and it made my chest pound. I really thought Calvin was going to be on my side and see from my point of view. I had discussed my intention with Lena before going to him, she was hopeful too that we could get him to put Janice in her place. But he acted I. The opposite. I never would have imagined that happening. I feel betrayed. To show that I am quite offended, I have ignored him all day and now that we are at the dinner table, I refused to sit next to him. Thankfully, she is not around. His eyes trailed my every move. I paid no mind, only responding to whatever Amelia and Lena said. Janice soon joined us and the table felt awkward again. CalvinI could feel my face shining brighter than usual when the door opened and gave way to Clara, looking radiant that she was this morning.“Hey, baby.” I drawled, gesturing for her to come into my arms. I kissed her cheek. “Is this you missing me and regretting that you insisted I get to work rather than be in bed all day with you?” I teased.Clara giggled, throwing her head to the back. “Dont get ahead of yourself. I just thought to come say hi.”“Just like that? Then I guess you have got a gift for me.”She pulled my nose playfully. “Stop it already. You and your sister are the same. Pulling my poor legs.”&nbs
