Lucian's pov

My boots pounded against the stone floor. My wounds screamed so loud and my side burned. But then again, I didn't care. Nothing mattered except getting back to her.

Kade was beside me, breathing hard, his face pale. We didn't speak. There was nothing left to say. We had the scroll. We just had to make it to the infirmary.

Tasha.

Leaning against the wall like she had all the time in the world. Her silver bra

  • The Alpha's Secret Witch    The Hunters at the Gate

Cressida's pov The snow was falling and the wind was howling and the world was white and cold.I stood at the window of Lucian's quarters and watched the darkness swallow the frozen gardens. The torches flickered and the shadows danced and the snow piled up against the glass. Ember was curled at my feet and her purr was soft and steady and her warmth seeped through my boots.I had not slept in days.Every time I closed my eyes I saw the flames. Every time I breathed I smelled the smoke. Every time I heard a sound I thought it was them. The hunters. The ones who had been watching. The ones who had been waiting. The ones who would not stop until I was dead or worse. The door opened and Lucian walked in.His face was tired and his eyes were dark and his shirt was rumpled. He crossed the room and stood behind me and his hands found my shoulders."You should be sleeping," he said."I cannot sleep.""You have not slept in days.""I know."He turned me around and looked at my face and his w

  • The Alpha's Secret Witch    The Storm That Would Not Break

Lucian's pov The night was cold and the wind was howling and the walls of my quarters were too close.I stood at the window and watched the snow fall and the darkness deepen and the world disappear beneath a blanket of white. My hands were shaking and my chest was tight and my mind was racing. The witch's words echoed in my skull and they would not stop. She is in danger. More danger than you know. There are people who have been watching her since the day she arrived.People who know what she is.People who know what she came here to do.They are not going to stop until she is either with them or dead.I pressed my palm to the cold glass and my breath fogged the surface and the snow fell and the wind howled.Cressida was asleep in the bed behind me and her dark hair was spread across the pillow and her face was peaceful and her breathing was steady. She looked like an angel. She looked like she had never known fear or pain or loss. She looked like she belonged in a world that would n

  • The Alpha's Secret Witch    The Name She Knew

Lucian's pov The cells were cold and the air was thick and the torches flickered on the stone walls.I walked down the narrow corridor and my boots echoed on the stone and the guards stepped aside. The witch was in the last cell, the one with the iron bars and the heavy lock and the shadows that seemed to cling to the corners. She was sitting on the floor with her back against the wall and her black eyes fixed on the door. She looked up when I stopped in front of her cell and her smile was sharp and cold."Alpha," she said. "I was wondering when you would come.""You knew I would come.""I knew."I crossed my arms and my voice was steady. "Who sent you?""No one.""You are lying.""I am not.""Then why are you here?""I am here for the same reason you are here. For the same reason the girl is here."I went still and my blood went cold. "What girl?"She laughed and the sound echoed off the walls. "Do not pretend, Alpha. I know who she is. I know what she is. I know why she came to thi

  • The Alpha's Secret Witch    The Hunters in the Dark

Lucian's povThe night was cold and the snow was falling and the border was quiet.Too quiet.I stood at the edge of the old pass with my hands clenched and my jaw tight and my eyes scanning the darkness. The patrols were in position and their faces were pale and their hands were steady. The information had been correct before. The killer had been there. The killer had slipped away. But tonight felt different. Tonight felt like something was coming.Kade appeared at my side and his voice was low. "Anything?""Nothing.""Too quiet?""Too quiet."He nodded and his hand was on his blade and his eyes were sharp. "The patrols are jumpy. They have been hearing things. Footsteps in the snow. Voices in the dark.""Have they seen anything?""No. But they have felt something."I looked at the trees and the snow and the sky. "The killer is out there.""I know.""They are watching.""I know.""They are waiting.""I know."I turned to him and my voice was steady. "Then we wait too."The hours pass

  • The Alpha's Secret Witch    The Jealous Alpha

Cressida's pov The dining hall was loud and the candles were bright and the air smelled like roasted meat and fresh bread.I had not been here in days. Not since the fire. Not since Sha locked me in that burning room and stood outside laughing. The walls felt the same and the tables were the same and the faces were the same. But everything felt different. I felt different. And the wolves were looking at me like I was something they had not seen before.Raven was beside me and her dark curls were wild and her eyes were bright. Benita was on my other side and her brown eyes were soft and her smile was warm. Tasha was across from me and her silver braids were loose and her expression was unreadable."Everyone is staring," I said."Everyone is staring," Raven agreed."Why?""Because you survived a fire. Because you are the Alpha's girlfriend. Because you are the most interesting thing that has happened to this academy in years.""That is not reassuring.""It is honest."I picked up my fo

Lucian's pov The corridor was cold and the torches flickered and my boots echoed on the stone.I had been on patrol for hours and my body was tired and my mind was racing. The killer was still out there and the border was still vulnerable and the council was still breathing down my neck. But all I could think about was her. Cressida. The fire. The smoke. The way she had collapsed in my arms and the way her body had gone still.I needed to see her.I needed to hold her.I needed to know that she was real and alive and okay. The infirmary door was open and the candles were lit and the room was warm. She was sitting up in bed with her dark hair loose and her face pale and her eyes bright. Her friends were gathered around her and their voices were low and their faces were tired. She looked up when I walked in and her smile was like the sun."Lucian.""Cressida."I crossed the room and pulled her into my arms and held her tight. Her body was warm and her hands were shaking and her face pr
