“What the fuck are you doing here,” I said between clenched teeth. Nolan stood from his chair as if not expecting me. “Lily, what are you doing here?” He asked unbothered by my outburst. “ Well you should tell me what she's doing here?” Vivian rolled her eyes, then she stood from the chair that was across Nolan's, she wore a red dress that hugged her curves, her mouth was red with exergerated red lipstick “ hello dear sister, long time no see, what? Aren't you happy to see me?” She asked, her voice feigning being wronged. “Happy, are you out of your fucking mind, what the hell are you doing in my husband's office.” “That's enough,” Nolan shouted, I looked at him with disbelief. He looked unfazed. “ Lily what are you doing here,” he asked in an irritated tone, as expected. Nolan had never really seen me as his wife, he always acted so cold towards me for reasons unknown to me. And now he was protecting my stepsisters feelings not caring about how that made me feel. “ I wanted to talk to you,” I said in a shaky voice. “Well can't it wait, did you really have to show up here unannounced and make a scene,” he said in irritation. Tears welled in my eyes as I pointed at my chest, “ I am making a scene,” I said with a shaky voice. The whole time Vivian was smiling as if what I was doing was the most hilarious show she had ever watched. I hated her, I felt like I could just jump and slap the smile off her face. She had taken everything from me, since she and her mother came into our lives, my life had been miserable, she took all of my father's love and turned him against me, I was the bully, while she, well, she was the most perfect adorable daughter. “Come on Lily dear, can't I visit my brother-in-law,” she said in a fake sweet tone, making Nolan to grin. He had never smiled at me, but somehow Vivian's act made him act like a sweet little baby, pathetic. “It's time to leave, I'll see you back home,” Nolan said dismissively. I darted my eyes between the two, my eyes burning, he didn't even care. Without thinking, I barged out of his office. Tears now rolling down my eyes. My marriage was the worst, I was never happy and now, the man who was supposed to protect me was taking sides with the woman who hurt me. I didn't even know how he was going to react if he knew I was pregnant, bet he'll ask me to get rid of it. Over my dead body, this child was going to be my only family, I'd rather die than do something like that. I walked into the elevator ignoring all the curious glances around the office. When the elevator reached the ground floor, I wiped off my tears and walked out. I didn't want anyone to pity me. So Leila knew that Vivian was up there and I would cause a scene. Was it the first time she came here or were they hiding something from me. Nolan's secretary wouldn't act so protectively like that if she didn't know something. I wanted to ask her but it would make me look like the insecure wife. I rushed into the car and instructed Mike to drive back home. We arrived at our ‘billion dollar villa’. I walked to the master bedroom and opened the mahogany door, my vision was blurry from the tears. I lay in the bed as I stared at the ceiling. Nolan had humiliated me In front of that bitch Vivian, it made my heart twist painfully on my chest. Was there something going on between them? I couldn't help but wonder. “ No it can't be,” I convinced myself. Besides, these three years that I had been married to Nolan, there wasn't even the tiniest speck of another woman, he hated women and no one really came near him, even me, his legal wife, I was at his mercy, he was only interested in me when he was in the mood. I could count the number of times we had slept together and fulfilled our marital life. My hand found its way to my belly and I rubbed it gently, “ don't worry baby, mama will protect you no matter what, I will love you.” I said in between sobs. I didn't know how long I had been spacing out, then I heard a gentle knock from the door. “Come in,” I said in a low voice. Betty, our family's nanny came in, “ma'am, me Nolan is back, and he has a guest and is asking for you downstairs,” I raised my eyebrows, a guest? Were we expecting someone? “Why can't you just show the guest to their room?” I was confused. Inviting guests wasn't part of my job, besides this villa had a lot of servants. “Well ma'am, it's because sir wanted you to specially do it,” she said in a soft tone. I sat up from the bed then stood, “ alright then, let's go,” I said as we walked out of the bedroom. I hadn't changed my clothes from earlier and my head was on fire from all the crying. I walked down stairs, my hair was a mess from turning, “Nolan, you called for me,” I called out as I made my way to the sitting room. My eyes went out cold as I saw the guest. “ It's you again,” I said in irritation. Vivian stood at my sitting room, a pink suitcase in her hand. “Nolan, what's going on?” I asked impatiently. Nolan looked at me with unbothered eyes, “Vivian is my guest, please show her to her room,” I let out a bitter laugh. He looked at me with raised eyebrows. “You want me to show this snake to her room, you got to be kidding me,” I said as I folded my hands on my chest. “Lily, behave yourself,” he said through clenched teeth. “ I expect you to be proper and show our guest to her room. I let out a mocking laugh again, “our guest, she's your guest, why can't you show her to her room yourself,” I said. Nolan looked at me with venomous eyes but I was oblivious. “Nolan, it's okay if my sister doesn't want me here, I can just leave,” Vivian said in that annoying fake voice trying to make an act of walking to the door, but Nolan held her back. “Come with me,” he said in a gentle voice. He has never been that gentle with me. They looked so good anyone would think that they were the real couple and I was an outsider. Nolan took her suitcase and held her hand as they walked past me and made there way up the stairs. I stood there looking at them as my heart broke into a thousand pieces.Lily“Watch where you're going bitch,” a sharp voice retorted. I didn't need to look up to know who it was, I got pushed to the side, it was Vivian, pushing me away from Nolan. I looked up at him and he was quiet, his face was full of concern but it disappeared within seconds.I stared at him for a second more, hoping for something I knew very well I wasn't going to get. “I'm sorry about your mother,” he said in a deep cold voice. No one needed to point it out, he didn't even hide it, he didn't care. “Don't think I don't really know your game, Nolan is mine now, you think what has happened is going to make you get back together, well...in your dreams,” Vivian mocked as she held onto Nolan's hand, he didn't push her away, then her hand went to her abdomen as she gently rubbed it. "We are going to be a big happy family, we don't need any of your drama," she continued, her words stung, I was also pregnant for Nolan, but he didn't know, will me telling him the truth change the way he look
LilyI arrived at the hospital's door, my heart was drumming in my ears, my hands were shaky, was it because I was anxious to see my mother again? I wasn't really sure.I ran to the elevator and pressed on the third floor button with impatience. When the door opened I took to my heels to her room. “Mum,” I shouted, when I arrived at the ward door, tears had filled my eyes and I couldn't help but burst out crying. It had been so long since I had seen my mother lively, I had missed her dearly and all I wanted to do was go and look deep into her green eyes and tell her about how I had suffered when she was away, how cruel life had been without her, I wanted to cry in her chest. I wanted to hold her warm hands and make her promise me that she won't ever leave me again. I wanted to tell her that we will run away together and go start our life afresh with his grand child, away from my blind father and his wife, away from Nolan, away from Vivian. I darted my eyes to the room, but it was awfu
Lily“I came for answers,” I said in a flat tone, my father's expression hardened, I could tell that he was already irritated and I had not yet said what I wanted.“What nonsense are you talking about now,” he said dismissively. In the past, his tone would make me flinch and apologize profusely for wasting his time, but not today.“Three years ago,” I began, each word deliberate, “ I was told that I could never have children, that I was infertile and had a zero chance.” I stared at them instinctively, then I saw it, a flicker passed between them, but they masked it again. My heart thudded in my chest as I continued, “ but now,” my voice was tight in my throat, I was struggling despite how controlled I tried to be, “ I've found out that it wasn't true, the diagnosis was all fake.”They stared at me blankly, as if I wasn't supposed to figure out what was being hidden.“If I remember correctly, I was with you,” I pointed to Clara,” she glared back at me, “ you're the one who recommended
Lily I arrived at the villa, the hell of a home I grew up in, I felt nauseous by the sight of its white walls and the so called beautiful garden planted with venom by my witch of a stepmother.I walked to the front grey door, my blood boiled in my veins, I curled my hands into tiny balls untill my knuckles felt numb. I hated this place, I wasn't planning on coming back anyway because everyone who breathed here hated me to the core, and the lawful owner, my mother was taken out and she was a vegetable at the hospital. I took in a deep breath then twisted the golden door knob.As always, that venomous woman was seated on the couch, draped in red silk while enjoying sipping tea. A maid was massaging her shoulders as another servant was on one knee, a plate full of grapes in hand as she fed her one at a time. Her face was covered in a white face mask."Wow… you’ve really settled in, haven’t you? Must be nice playing queen in a kingdom you stole.” I shouted, making the servants stop what
LilyThe next day, I woke up early, Ruby was still asleep, her couch was quite comfortable since I didn't see the reason for me to walk all the way to the bedroom so I slept in the coach the whole night.I was hungry, so I walked into the kitchen and fixed myself a drink. There were bananas in the fridge. I warmed some milk and blended the mixture to make a smoothie. It was soothing to my stomach, at least it was nutritious and something I could go by.I was downing the nutritious drink when pain shot through my head like a lightning strike, it was sudden and unforgiving. I winced at the pain, I reached out my hand to touch my head when a sharp stab pierced my temples, making it hard to even think straight. It felt like needles pressing into my skull, each second worse than the last. This all came from the crying yesterday and the stress I was going through. I wanted to go to the bathroom and take some of Ruby's painkillers then I remembered doctor Hayes advice. I shouldn't take just
LilyI don't know how long I had drifted to sleep but I was woken up by a nurse, she was wearing a pink uniform, her hair tightened into a ponytail, she flushed me a gentle smile as her arm tapped my shoulder gently. “ Miss, it's time for the patient's medication, you'll have to leave.” I woke up, and sat up straight, my eyes were red from all the crying and still sleepy, anyone who saw me would say I looked miserable. Although I had all the reasons to be. I nodded in understanding and took my bag. I stood up, gave my mother one final look and walked out. My head was aching, I guess it's from all the frustration, and my stomach growled in hunger. I almost forgot I had a stranger in there and he or she didn't care what I was going through and needed to eat. I walked to the hospital's cafeteria and wanted to order a coffee but I changed my mind. Although I was going through it, it was unfair to feed my child harmful food. If I remember correctly, doctor Hayes forbade me from taking ca
Lily I walked out of the door and got into my car, tears welled in my eyes. My heart twisted painfully in my chest, three years of marriage and for what. I twisted the key and the engine roared to life, I knew where I was going. I was going to see the person who never stopped loving me and cari
LilyI blinked at his words, I had been waiting for him to say the words but I didn't expect them to hurt this much, my heart twisted in my chest, he didn't even bother to explain how this all happened. I wanted to know when he began to cheat on me, when he and my sister decided that it was best fo
LilyI was woken up with a sharp scream coming from outside, it was no doubt that it was Vivian seeking attention. Nolan stood up from the bed panicking, he didn't even bother to put a shirt on as he ran out of the room.I rolled my eyes as I followed him to the guest room. He walked towards Vivian
Lily I sat on the cold steel chair in the hospital hallway. The whole time my thoughts were floating around me. People walked in the hallway, doctors rushing from one room to the other, while families carried bouquets of flowers and fruit baskets for their loved ones. They were the happy ones. I
