I don't know how long I had drifted to sleep but I was woken up by a nurse, she was wearing a pink uniform, her hair tightened into a ponytail, she flushed me a gentle smile as her arm tapped my shoulder gently. “ Miss, it's time for the patient's medication, you'll have to leave.” I woke up, and sat up straight, my eyes were red from all the crying and still sleepy, anyone who saw me would say I looked miserable. Although I had all the reasons to be. I nodded in understanding and took my bag. I stood up, gave my mother one final look and walked out. My head was aching, I guess it's from all the frustration, and my stomach growled in hunger. I almost forgot I had a stranger in there and he or she didn't care what I was going through and needed to eat. I walked to the hospital's cafeteria and wanted to order a coffee but I changed my mind. Although I was going through it, it was unfair to feed my child harmful food. If I remember correctly, doctor Hayes forbade me from taking caffeine. I went to the parking lot and drove off. I stopped by a food stall and ordered a sandwich with blended mango juice. I munched in it but it tasted all wrong, it was bland like eating paste. It was already dark outside, and I couldn't go back to the villa, Nolan's house, since he kicked me out, oh no, he's divorcing me, which means I'm no longer welcomed there and worse, I wouldn't want to be in the same roof as that homewrecker Vivian and my witch of a mother-in-law. I took out my phone and dialed that familiar number, within two beeps the person on the other end answered. “Babe, are you alright?” She called out in a concerned tone. “I'm fine,” I lied. “Can I crash at your place tonight?” “Sure. Should I come and pick you up? Where are you?” “Don't worry, I'm around the corner, I'll be right there no need to trouble yourself.” “ Alright then, drive safe.” She said then hung up. How could I have forgotten that someone as kind as Ruby existed in this world. Apart from my mother, she was the only person who showered me with love and care, she was like a sister I never had. Which was entirely true. I drove to her apartment and packed my car in the parking lot. I had her house for code so I just entered it and walked in. She was seated on her couch, popcorn in hand watching a movie. When her eyes met mine, she stood up from the sofa and walked towards me, giving me a tight hug. I melted into her embrace. She rubbed my back, making me relish the stream of tears I didn't know still remained in my system. “Hush,” she whispered. “ He's divorcing me,” I said in between sobs. She disentangled from the hug and held me by the shoulders, her eyes searching mine. “Come,” she said softly as she walked me to the sofa. She poured me a glass of water and I gurgled it down. She stayed silent, her eyes never leaving mine, her eyebrows were scrunched. She was waiting for me to say something. But my throat was tight and even though I tried no words came out. “But it's for the best anyway,” she said finally. I stared at her, but she was right. What was I expecting, that I would just forgive him and help him raise his bastard with his mistress and live a happily ever after life. No way. My body felt weak, so I decided to lay on the couch. Ruby went to her bedroom and came back with a blanket and put it over my body. I was shaking all over, it was like I was breaking in a fever. “ You don't have to talk right now, rest up, we'll talk when you're ready,” Ruby whispered. I just nodded.Lily“Watch where you're going bitch,” a sharp voice retorted. I didn't need to look up to know who it was, I got pushed to the side, it was Vivian, pushing me away from Nolan. I looked up at him and he was quiet, his face was full of concern but it disappeared within seconds.I stared at him for a second more, hoping for something I knew very well I wasn't going to get. “I'm sorry about your mother,” he said in a deep cold voice. No one needed to point it out, he didn't even hide it, he didn't care. “Don't think I don't really know your game, Nolan is mine now, you think what has happened is going to make you get back together, well...in your dreams,” Vivian mocked as she held onto Nolan's hand, he didn't push her away, then her hand went to her abdomen as she gently rubbed it. "We are going to be a big happy family, we don't need any of your drama," she continued, her words stung, I was also pregnant for Nolan, but he didn't know, will me telling him the truth change the way he look
LilyI arrived at the hospital's door, my heart was drumming in my ears, my hands were shaky, was it because I was anxious to see my mother again? I wasn't really sure.I ran to the elevator and pressed on the third floor button with impatience. When the door opened I took to my heels to her room. “Mum,” I shouted, when I arrived at the ward door, tears had filled my eyes and I couldn't help but burst out crying. It had been so long since I had seen my mother lively, I had missed her dearly and all I wanted to do was go and look deep into her green eyes and tell her about how I had suffered when she was away, how cruel life had been without her, I wanted to cry in her chest. I wanted to hold her warm hands and make her promise me that she won't ever leave me again. I wanted to tell her that we will run away together and go start our life afresh with his grand child, away from my blind father and his wife, away from Nolan, away from Vivian. I darted my eyes to the room, but it was awfu
Lily“I came for answers,” I said in a flat tone, my father's expression hardened, I could tell that he was already irritated and I had not yet said what I wanted.“What nonsense are you talking about now,” he said dismissively. In the past, his tone would make me flinch and apologize profusely for wasting his time, but not today.“Three years ago,” I began, each word deliberate, “ I was told that I could never have children, that I was infertile and had a zero chance.” I stared at them instinctively, then I saw it, a flicker passed between them, but they masked it again. My heart thudded in my chest as I continued, “ but now,” my voice was tight in my throat, I was struggling despite how controlled I tried to be, “ I've found out that it wasn't true, the diagnosis was all fake.”They stared at me blankly, as if I wasn't supposed to figure out what was being hidden.“If I remember correctly, I was with you,” I pointed to Clara,” she glared back at me, “ you're the one who recommended
Lily I arrived at the villa, the hell of a home I grew up in, I felt nauseous by the sight of its white walls and the so called beautiful garden planted with venom by my witch of a stepmother.I walked to the front grey door, my blood boiled in my veins, I curled my hands into tiny balls untill my knuckles felt numb. I hated this place, I wasn't planning on coming back anyway because everyone who breathed here hated me to the core, and the lawful owner, my mother was taken out and she was a vegetable at the hospital. I took in a deep breath then twisted the golden door knob.As always, that venomous woman was seated on the couch, draped in red silk while enjoying sipping tea. A maid was massaging her shoulders as another servant was on one knee, a plate full of grapes in hand as she fed her one at a time. Her face was covered in a white face mask."Wow… you’ve really settled in, haven’t you? Must be nice playing queen in a kingdom you stole.” I shouted, making the servants stop what
LilyThe next day, I woke up early, Ruby was still asleep, her couch was quite comfortable since I didn't see the reason for me to walk all the way to the bedroom so I slept in the coach the whole night.I was hungry, so I walked into the kitchen and fixed myself a drink. There were bananas in the fridge. I warmed some milk and blended the mixture to make a smoothie. It was soothing to my stomach, at least it was nutritious and something I could go by.I was downing the nutritious drink when pain shot through my head like a lightning strike, it was sudden and unforgiving. I winced at the pain, I reached out my hand to touch my head when a sharp stab pierced my temples, making it hard to even think straight. It felt like needles pressing into my skull, each second worse than the last. This all came from the crying yesterday and the stress I was going through. I wanted to go to the bathroom and take some of Ruby's painkillers then I remembered doctor Hayes advice. I shouldn't take just

LilyI blinked at his words, I had been waiting for him to say the words but I didn't expect them to hurt this much, my heart twisted in my chest, he didn't even bother to explain how this all happened. I wanted to know when he began to cheat on me, when he and my sister decided that it was best fo
LilyThe whole night there was no sign of Nolan, he didn't even come up to check on me. I stayed up all night contemplating of my next move, but I knew that bitch Vivian has a lot of schemes up her sleeve. Saves me the trouble. In the morning I woke up, I went to the mirror and saw a ghostly figure
