INICIAR SESIÓNYears after a deadly infection-The Lunar Plague-swept across the world, humans either died, turned into monstrous Hollowfangs, or survived with rare, unexplained immunity. Wolves became the dominant species, building packs and fighting to survive in a world of ruins. THE ALPHA Kael, known as The Grave Wolf, is the most powerful Alpha on the East Coast. Ruthless, feared, and respected, he built his pack from the ashes. But beneath the cold exterior is a man haunted by one loss— Nova Reyes, the girl he was fated to, who disappeared on the night the outbreak began. He spent five years searching for her, believing she was dead.
Ver másRain hammered against the ruined train cars hard enough to make the metal groan.
Nova Reyes tightened her grip on the rusted crowbar in her hand as she climbed through the narrow opening between two collapsed seats.
Water dripped from the ceiling onto the back of her neck. The flashlight strapped to her wrist flickered.
“Seriously?” she muttered, smacking it against the side of the train. The beam steadied again. Barely. The overturned subway car smelled like mildew and old blood. Nature had started reclaiming it years ago. Thick vines curled through shattered windows while moss crawled along the walls like rot spreading through flesh. Nova moved carefully One wrong step and the entire wreck could collapse deeper into the flooded tunnel below. But the supply crate was here somewhere. At least that’s what the radio trader claimed before charging her half her ammo for the information.
“Medical crate inside Line Seven wreckage,” he’d said. “Untouched.” Untouched her ass. Nothing stayed untouched anymore. Nova ducked beneath a hanging support beam and pushed forward her boots splashing through ankle-deep water.
Thunder cracked overhead. Then came the sound. A low metallic scrape somewhere deeper inside the train. Nova froze instantly, her breathing slowed. Every muscle in her body locked tight at the sound approaching. She slowly reached for the knife strapped to her thigh.
“Probably rats,” she whispered to herself.
But even she didn’t believe it. Rats didn’t breathe like that. A soft growl drifted through the darkness. Nova’s stomach dropped. No. No, no, no— Her flashlight swept shakily across the ruined subway car. Nothing. Then two glowing yellow eyes opened beneath a collapsed section of metal. Nova stopped breathing. The creature unfolded slowly from the shadows. Its limbs bent wrong, bones jutting sharply beneath gray stretched skin. Wet fur clung in patches across its twitching body while saliva dripped from rows of crooked fangs. A Hollowfang. And judging by the fresh blood smeared across its mouth…It had eaten recently. The creature let out a clicking growl then. Another pair of eyes opened behind it Nova took a slow step backward. The Hollowfangs crawled forward together nails screeching across steel. Four of them. Maybe five. Her pulse slammed violently against her ribs.
“Shit,” she breathed. One lunged Nova reacted instantly swinging the crowbar straight into its skull. CRACK. The creature slammed sideways into a row of seats with a shriek. The others exploded toward her. Nova ran Metal screamed beneath her boots as she sprinted through the overturned train car. Her flashlight bounced wildly across the darkness while snarls thundered behind her. One of them slammed into her back. Nova crashed hard against the floor pain ripping through her shoulder. Teeth snapped inches from her face. She jammed the crowbar sideways into the creature’s mouth with a grunt as rancid saliva dripped onto her hands. The Hollowfang shrieked violently. Another grabbed her leg. Claws tore through her jeans. Nova screamed and kicked blindly panic detonating inside her chest. This was it. After five years surviving this hellhole…This was how she died. Then the tunnel shook with a growl so deep the entire train vibrated. Everything stopped. The Hollowfangs froze instantly. Silence crashed through the subway car. Even the rain outside seemed quieter. Another growl rolled through the darkness. Closer this time. Predatory in a way that made the infected creatures suddenly whimper. Nova slowly looked up. Heavy footsteps echoed somewhere beyond the overturned doors. Like whatever was coming already knew it was the most dangerous thing in the tunnel. The Hollowfang pinning Nova released her immediately. And began backing away. That terrified her more than anything. Because Hollowfangs feared nothing. A massive shadow appeared at the end of the train car. Tall enough that its head nearly brushed the ceiling Black fur and Silver eyes glowing in the dark appeared from the shadows. The wolf stepped forward slowly rainwater dripping from its coat it wasn’t a feral or a mindless monster no it was an alpha.
Kael was more than annoyed as he walked away from Nova’s room. Every instinct screamed at him to turn around and stay. His wolf certainly wasn’t helping matters. The beast had spent the entire walk arguing that Nova was going to escape again the moment he took his eyes off her. Honestly, Kael wouldn’t have been surprised if she tried climbing out the window before he even reached the council chamber. Five years hadn’t changed her stubbornness. If anything, surviving the apocalypse had made it worse.Unfortunately, there was a more immediate problem waiting for him.The elders.Kael groaned under his breath as he stalked through the fortress halls. The old geezers had been a headache long before the world ended. Now they somehow had even more time to meddle in everyone else’s business. As he passed through the compound, wolves quickly stepped out of his way. Most took one look at his expression and wisely avoided speaking to him altogether. The few brave enough to try only offered symp
, I am not staying with you!” Nova shouted for what felt like the hundredth time that day.Kael closed his eyes briefly.Exhaustion.Pure exhaustion. He had fought Hollowfangs, led a pack, dealt with elders, tracked Nova across half the wilderness, and somehow the human female was still the hardest thing he had dealt with all week.“You are staying somewhere inside the compound,” he said firmly.“No.”“Yes.”“No.”“Yes.”“No.”“Yes.”Nova looked ready to throw something. Unfortunately for everyone involved, there were plenty of throwable objects nearby.Rylan watched the exchange for a few seconds before grinning. “Oh, this is gonna be fun.”Kael shot him a look.Rylan ignored it.“Man, she is definitely going to keep you on your toes.”Nova immediately pointed at him. “Stop encouraging him.”“I’m encouraging both of you.”“That doesn’t make it better.”“It makes it funnier.”Kael resisted the urge to growl. Barely. His wolf was no help whatsoever. She’s staying with us.She’s driving
Nova’s face remained completely blank the entire trip back She sat stiffly on Kael’s massive wolf form with her arms crossed tightly Still mad.Very mad.Kael knew that posture. His wolf however seemed entirely too pleased carrying her around.“She’s staying.”Rylan walked beside them casually trying several times to start conversation.“So… this technically counts as your first horseback riding experience.”Silence.“Wolfback riding?”Nothing.“You know Kael’s gonna become unbearable about this later.”Nova ignored him completely.Rylan sighed dramatically. “Wow. Tough crowd.”Kael’s ears flicked slightly in amusement.Every now and again nova’s eyes drifted down toward her injured leg resting against dark fur It still hurt But Not constantly But enough to remind her it was there. At least it wasn’t bleeding anymore.Whatever the doctor injected her with back at the compound…It worked Or partially worked The infection spreading beneath her skin had definitely slowed. What exactly had
The woods remained quiet around her Nova tightened her grip on the knife.Something felt wrong. Then suddenly—A massive black shape slammed into her from the side.Nova hit the ground hard with a startled curse as fur and claws flashed across her vision.Wolf.Big one.The creature snarled low while circling her immediately.Nova scrambled backward and raised the knife defensively.“Back off, mutt!”The black wolf prowled around her slowly, silver eyes locked onto her every movement.Nova’s pulse hammered. She didn’t know if this was one of Kael’s wolves or some feral stray but she sure as hell wasn’t letting herself get eaten after surviving Hollowfangs all night. The wolf lunged.Nova reacted instantly, rolling sideways as jaws snapped where her throat had been seconds earlier.“Oh hell no!”She slashed the knife outward. The blade clipped across dark fur causing the wolf to snarl sharply before circling her again.Nova quickly got to her feet despite exhaustion burning through her
