The video showed little Bobby lying on the operating table, pale and alone. The chief surgeon, Debbie, was accompanied by an assisting physician and two nurses. Prepared to begin, Debbie hesitated, eliciting a frantic urging from the assistant, “Professor Brown, you must proceed quickly or it will be too late.”Debbie, annoyed, looked at Bobby, who was connected to oxygen, “Where to start? This is a postoperative complication, and the survival rate is just one in ten thousand. Even an attempt to save him is a waste of time.”Refusing to accept this, the assistant said, “Even if the chance is one in a hundred thousand, we cannot give up. That's our duty as doctors.”Debbie sneered, “Duty, my foot. You save him, that's duty. If not, he's a hot potato.”The assistant was stunned, feeling helpless to act, and Debbie rambled on, “How did Patricia do it last time? How did she save him? I should have watched her operate. If only I knew what to do now.”The nurses exchanged shocked glances.
