GIANNA’S POV Hands gripping my waist, pulling me down, forcing me to take every inch of him. I can’t believe I chose to lose my virginity to a stranger I just met at a club. My fingers claw at his shoulder, nails digging into his skin as my toes curl, but he doesn’t ease up. He keeps going. GIANNA’S POV The silence in the house was loud. Not the kind that invited peace, but the kind that pressed in on my chest, reminding me that no one was coming. No one was listening to my silent prayer and no one cared. Three days had passed since my father announced he would marry me off. I’d rather see it as him trading me away like a deal he has been waiting to put on paper. No explanation, no warning. ENZO’S POV THREE MONTHS AGO It’s been two weeks since I found out that one of my best men was selling out information about our shipment and since then, I had him locked away at the warehouse, pressing him for information, but he seems to not give up with his lies. Holding the finger clipper close to his hands, and looking straight into his eyes. “This is your last chance, Paulo. I currently have five missing shipments, all under your watch, who have you been betraying me with, huh. Who have you been selling my information to?” “I promise Il Falco, I do not know anything about your missing shipments. GIANNA’S POV PRESENT DAY I stopped thinking of a way to escape after my big failed attempt. It was impulsive, stupid, even. I waited until the kitchen buzzed with dinner prep, then slipped out through the other side like a shadow. My heart pounded so hard as I ran, I could feel the gravel crunching under my bare feet. I pushed forward running as fast as I could and finally made it past the garden, my fingertips grazing the cold iron fence, before I could make my next move, a hand closed around my hand like a vice. I didn’t scream. But flinched when I was hauled back into the house. How stupid was I to think I could escape my father after he found out about New York. GIANNA’S POV I swallowed hard on my saliva, invisible sweat trickling down my neck as I settled into my seat. He hasn’t stopped watching me. Not once. His stare pierces through the candlelit distance, silent and scorching. I feel his gaze like a second skin, every move I make under his scrutiny. I was hoping to stay for the night at one of my hotels here in Chicago, foolishly believing she wasn’t going to be the woman I saw in that dem file—the same woman I can’t seem to take my stupid mind off. But now here I am, already in New York leaving all the responsibilities to Zeno to handle. Running like a punta that I have become. The moment the car stopped in the driveway, I noticed my son's car wasn’t parked in the driveway. I shoved the door open and climbed out, my movements sharp and fast. GIANNA’S POV The minutes tick by, each second stretching longer than the last as we landed in New York. My fingers twitch at my sides, itching to do something—anything. But I know that any motive I have is pointless. There’s no way out. The guards back home had their eyes on me, sharp and unyielding. They were not just watching me. They were ensuring I didn’t even think about running. My father’s words echo in my mind, a cold reminder of why I’m here. Why do I have to go through with this? “You’ll marry him. You’ll do what’s necessary.” And the unspoken words he didn’t utter but I know too well, “You’ll be a good tool for the growth of my empire.” Mama is the only reason I’m sitting in this car. GIANNA’S POV I trailed after him, my steps slow and uncertain, a quiet unease tightening in my chest. Questions churned inside me. Why does he want to speak to me alone? Without uttering a word, he led me into what I believe to be his at home office. As soon as I stepped into the office, the scent of expensive cologne and cigar mixed together filled the room, giving it a rich and unique scent. His office was large, filled with wooden shelves that contained a lot of books with a large mahogany desk that sits in the center of the room. His desk was occupied with a lot of arranged files and his laptop rested neatly on the polished surface. GIANNA’S POV Aria and I hurried out of the kitchen, exchanging a glance as we moved, both needing to see who it was. “Where is my lovely little bride?” The voice echoed through the hallway. “That must be Matteo,” Aria said with a worried look on her face. Hesounded like he was drunk. Immediately, the words came out of my mouth, and I realized I had said it out loud. She turned to look at me with an apologetic smile as she collected my hands in hers. “I’m so sorry your first impression of him has to be like this.” “No problem, Aria. I have no problem.” She smiles and leans in for a hug. “It gets better. It always does. Both of you.” His voice was a low growl, fists clenched at his sides. “And Gianna—” his eyes cut to me “—you're in so much trouble.” “What do you mean by ‘I'm in so much trouble’?” “You ignored all 10 of my calls.” I thought it was a random number, so I ignored it.” I raised a brow. “So that unknown call was you? I mean, come on, you can’t seriously blame me for not answering. I don’t have your number saved.” He glowered at me, definitely not liking the tone of my voice. “Get up. You're coming with me.” I was about to put up a fight when he grabbed my right arm, his large palms firmly, and dragged me out of the diner as every pair of eyes followed, not daring to stop him. He pushed me into the passenger seat without a word, the impact making me stumble into the seat. He climbed in right after, the door slamming shut behind him, his scowl now darkened.
