Alaric’s pov The hospital room was dead silent when I stepped inside with a tray of food I had gotten for her, a nurse following closely behind. My gaze locked instantly on Karla, who lay crumpled on the floor. Her face was drained of color, and I immediately froze at the sight of blood trickling from a gash in her arm. “Karla!” I screamed, dropping the tray and rushing over. My voice came out in a shrill as the nurse brushed past me with a first-aid kit and sank to the floor next to Karla. Axel’s pov I clenched my jaw, dodging another round of bullets. “I know, I know!” The wastelands were difficult to maneuver through. They were filled with jagged rocks and had uneven roads, yet I pushed the truck to its limit. The enemy vehicles zoomed past us as they fired at our truck trying to disable it. They were faster than us but this was my home, I knew it better than anyone else.
