CHAPTER TWENTY ONE; THE NIGHT OF AND MORNING AFTER.

It's the fifth night in a row that I had woken up in the middle of the night. I hate sleeping in a hotel. I get up to get water and decide to stay up and catch up on my reading. As I drive to the cabin, I try not to think of how I left things or who I left behind. The wind feels great on my face. I feel as though my problems are being carried away. I don't know how long I have been walking. It's still raining but I can't even feel it. My toes are numb from the cold and my hands are all bruised up from falling over and over again. All I can think about is, I need to get far way from the cabin, the further the better.The whole trail is unfamiliar and made worse by the fact that it is dark. I have been in the interrogation room for what feels like forever. Every thought that I could have, I have had. Still not a single thing about this whole thing makes sense to me. CHAPTER THIRTY; FIRST NIGHT IN A PRISON CELL.

I am wishing for that hotel room right about now. I am on my own in a cold prison cell with a metallic toilet and a hard bed if I can even call it that. I try to sleep but I can't. Other than the utter discomfort of the bed, I am anxious and nervous about this whole situation. I know Avan told me not to worry and he'll take care of it but I can't help but worry. Just as desperate as he is to get me acquitted so is Kerrick to get me locked up for good. I hear the gate outside unlocking. I close my eyes and pretend I am sleeping. "It's me," it's Kerrick. Still with my eyes closed I turn to face the wall. I hope he goes away but instead he opens my cell door. "I know you are not asleep," I slow my breath.
