Ivy was walking past Zeke's inner chamber, on her way to her grandmother's apartment when her feet paused. Her heart pounded against her chest as she drew closer to the locked door. Lucas's voice met her ears in a whisper but with a sharp tone. It was the sharpest she had ever heard him speak. She didn't need to see his face to know that the always present teasing smile on his face was absent. She couldn't hear Zeke's voice - even when she was confident that Lucas was speaking to him. Instead she heard a voice overlapping Lucas's voice - one that sounded so similar to the pack's doctor. The words came in broken sentences. “It’s wolf fever,” Her heart thumped at that. Wolf fever? Days passed after Ivy heard of Zeke's fever. She hadn't gone to bother him, keeping to herself. Tessa had noticed and asked about it but she had given a backhanded reply that was laying in the space between true and false.It was the last week of Darius' visit and he had arranged a pack dinner. The chefs and kitchen staff were on their tiptoes, putting everything in order. And finally, the time for the dinner arrived. Tessa and Ivy walked into the hall, sitting beside each other when Lucas walked in. The night was chilly, the wind threatening to uproot roots off the ground but Ivy and Tessa stood outside the archive room.“Don't let anyone get a glimpse at you. Don't make me lose my job,” Ivy heard a shaky voice from inside the room, one that could only belong to a withered old man. Tessa's voice came next. “We would be careful, nothing is going to happen,” She said and held him outside. “Hello Bram,” Ivy waved as Old Bram, the record keeper walked out with thousands of keys dangling from his fingers. “Luna, you're here too,” he sighed and turned back to Tessa. “Here.” He fished out a key from the millions of key in his hands and placed it on her open palms. “Don't misplace it,” He added in a stern voice. “I won't, I won't.” Tessa pinched her forehead and led him out of the room. The air was chilly, the tall trees bending to the pressure of the strong wind. The clouds formed an umbrella over the sky. Ivy was taking her late night walk when she caught sight of Zeke, he was training at the back of his chambers. “Stoneheart,” she called and stepped closer. “What do you want?” Zeke turned to glare at her and sighed helplessly.“Don't tell me you've forgotten about our trainings just because you're taking a new wife?” She tilted her head provocatively. “A new wife? Zeke wakes with a new resolve in his heart. Avoiding Ivy Hale. Continued contact with her had caused more damage than good and only complete avoidance could solve his problem. He wasn't ready yet for her to know about his sickness, he wasn't exactly sure what she would do with the information. Lucas arrived early that morning, the files in his hands. “How have you been holding up?” He asked, falling into the couch. Zeke stayed silent, skimming through the documents. Lucas raised his eyebrows in confusion, before his eyes twinkled and he leaned in. “And how's your training with Ivy?” he asked. It was on a hot Tuesday afternoon when Enid and her delegates arrived. Ivy had known they would be arriving today, the whole pack settings had changed with Darius at the forefront. He spearheaded the new change in the pack, giving a beautiful and girly finish to most of the things in the pack. Ivy winced uncomfortably as she walked past and her mind went to Zeke. How would he feel with these new changes? But she remembered it was his bride coming home so he wouldn't care, her eyes twitched at that. A new lady - more like a bride, arriving the pack when she had been named Zeke's Mate was an insult to her name and she could feel some parts of the pack's inhabitants treating her differently. The pack is gathered at the main hall for a formal pack dinner, warmly welcoming Enid to our pack as Darius called it. Ivy and Tessa arrived the hall a little late when everyone was already seated. Tessa's plan to draw attention, one that Ivy despised but could do nothing about. When they arrived, they discovered Darius had arranged the seating arrangements. Enid was seated directly beside Zeke, with Darius sitting opposite her. Tessa opened her mouth to say something but ivy hushed her. Tessa's seat was beside Lucas who was seated beside Enid. As ivy left, it brought a change of tension and vibe in the dining room, everyone adjusted. Even Enid shifted a bit from Zeke. Darius's eyes were cold, lips pressed into a thin line as he tried to engage Zeke in small talks. But the small smile on Zeke's face couldn't be overlooked. He was beaming with pride and joy for reasons even he couldn't pinpoint. Enid's representatives adjusted awkwardly when realization dawned on them that they had been so carried away by the charisma of the girl their princess was supposed to replace.
