Alexander Marcus had taken over the dining table, with a laptop open in front of him beside two phones, a notebook and several sheets of paper covered in names, numbers and locations. Elena The lock clicked and Elena was already moving before the door finished opening. She slid off the bed so quickly her knee struck the bedside table and the breakfast tray rattled, a cup tipping sideways and rolling across the surface before stopping against the edge. For hours she had listened for footsteps outside, for hours she had waited for that lock to turn, and now somebody was finally coming in. It was Ethan and she felt no relief at all.
