Lina’s POV I didn’t sleep after what happened between I and Kailen. After he left, after the click of the lock sealed me in again, I stood in the center of the room and waited. For footsteps. For shouting. For torture. For pain. But nothing came as I expected. The night stretched thin and brittle. Every time I thought I heard movement beyond the door, my pulse kicked, but it was only the guards shifting positions. Only silence pressing in. He said I would feel the consequences.
