Briar’s POV“Congratulations, Mrs. Sterling, you are six weeks pregnant.” The doctor’s words played repeatedly in my head making my toes curl in excitement. A little burst of giggles kept escaping my lips at each reminder. I knew it was only a matter of time before all that I wanted came to me. Briar’s POVMy night was awful and I really wish it wasn’t. I couldn’t catch a wink of sleep after that harsh reality I was forced to face last night. Briar’s POV“Why can’t I visit?” Mum yelled from the other end of the phone. I held the phone away from my ear, cursing inwardly. “Mum, please. I am stressed.”“That is not the response I seek.” She snapped. Inhaling sharply, I rubbed at my growing belly gently with my free hand. It’s been over two weeks since Isadora’s arrival and my life has taken a different turn. It took me back to the days when I lived with my mother and had to stay locked up in my room whenever she brought her numerous guests over. He says she would only be here until her apartment is ready. But it is beginning to seem like a shallow excuse to me. In just a short while, I have seen a different side of Adrian. He laughs freely with Isadora and whenever I see him, she is always on his arm. They eat together, spend long hours talking about God knows what in his room or study. Briar’s POVAs the rain thundered against the window, my chest tightened and tears flowed nonstop. It’s been two months of darkness in my life. My little one grows inside me healthily, but I worry that my sadness might deprive the child of a full life. How can I be happy when everything around me is crumbling?Isadora has turned herself into a blood-sucking monster always looking to make me the bad guy. And Adrian is readily available to rebuke me on her behalf. He doesn’t even spare a moment of reasoning. To be sure the lies told against me were true. I have started living in the house like a guest and she is the lady of the house. I still don’t know why she still lives with us. As each day passes, I detest Adrian for hurting me this much. For making me a shadow of myself and ridiculing me in front of his ex-lover whom he insists is just his friend. I wanted to revisit his notion of me. It made no sense that he didn’t have any affection towards me and only saw me as a breeding cow.

Briar’s POVI finally made up my mind. Atlanta to Inglewood by road will take me two days to reach. But it is the best option for me. I cannot afford to have my movement tracked by Adrian. So taking a plane is off the table. I need to disappear as quietly as possible. This would be my first long drive on my own and far away from home. The first time I did it was when I clocked twenty and I desperately wanted to rebel against my mother. I had driven out of Atlanta and was nearing Cleveland when my car stopped. I had no idea what went wrong with it. The only person I could call was my mother. Since then, I never contemplated running. But this time, I am very prepared.
