The next morning, I discovered two things. First, Aurelia took her role as wedding planner far more seriously than anyone should have allowed. Second, the council had absolutely no intention of giving me time to recover from that realization. We were halfway through breakfast when a knock sounded at the dining room door. A moment later, one of the servants stepped inside. "Elder Rowan is here to see you, Alpha." I paused. Across the table, Kael didn't look surprised. Which immediately made me suspicious. "Send him in." The servant bowed and stepped aside. Elder Rowan entered carrying a thick stack of papers. My stomach sank. Nobody carried that many papers unless they intended to ruin someone's day. He smiled when he saw me. That smile never meant anything good. "Good morning, Alpha," Elder Rowan said. "Rowan," Kael acknowledged with a slight nod. The elder inclined his head respectfully before turning toward Aurelia. "Good morning, little one."
