For direct interviews, Korean media is the primary source. I'd recommend searching his Korean name, 추공, on platforms like Naver. For English fans, the wikis and fan forums often compile links to translated snippets. The official 'Solo Leveling' webtoon page on Tappytoon or Webtoon sometimes features creator notes or brief Q&As that are officially translated, which are as close as you get.

I actually had a tough time hunting down interviews with Chugong at first. A lot of folks will point you to the Korean webtoon platforms, but the real hurdle is the language barrier. Many of his early interviews, especially when 'Solo Leveling' was first taking off, are in Korean. I remember digging through Naver articles and using a really clunky browser translator just to get the gist.
What helped me the most was finding dedicated fan translators on sites like Reddit, specifically in the r/sololeveling and r/anime communities. They sometimes take the time to translate and summarize key interviews. Also, checking the YouTube channels of the manhwa's publishers, like D&C Media, can occasionally turn up subtitled content from press events or anniversary livestreams.

Man, good luck. It's weirdly sparse for how huge the series got. I think Chugong is just a pretty private person? Most of what you'll find is second-hand info from the webtoon artists or the anime production team. I've seen more interviews with the director of the anime adaptation than with the author himself.
Your best shot is probably looking at the promotional material around the anime's release. Some entertainment news sites like Anime News Network might have done written Q&As that reference the source author. It's not a deep dive, but it's something.

Three years ago, he gave up on his massive fortune to lead a reclusive life in the countryside with his mentor. Three years later, he returns over a marriage agreement. To his surprise, the engagement is called off.
"Who do you think you are? You're nothing but a quack doctor from the countryside! How can you possibly be worthy of me, the Dragonia's first goddess of war?"
After I was caught in a dockside explosion, I was bound to a Survival Program.
It gave me twenty-five years and four designated targets.
If even one target’s Love Score or bond score reached 100%, I could wake up in my real world.
But I failed all four.
Because every target I tried to reach eventually turned toward Sophia Lane, the heroine of this world.
They called my pain a performance.
They called my tears manipulation.
They said I was only pretending to break down so they would choose me over Sophia.
But if they never loved me, why did they lose control when my mission failed and I chose to leave this world for good?
When the apocalypse came, she lost everything. Starving, hunted, and desperate, she trusted the one man she loved… only for him to betray her in the cruelest way possible. He stole her last supplies to please another woman and left her to die in a sea of the undead.
But death wasn’t the end.
She woke up days before the world collapsed.
After cutting ties with her ungrateful ex and his parasitic family, a mysterious voice awakens in her mind, LUS, a Level-Up System designed to help her survive the coming end.
With knowledge of the future and a system guiding her every move, she begins to prepare. She stockpiles resources, builds a base, and learns how to fight back against the horrors that once destroyed her.
And when the apocalypse arrives again… she’s ready. But survival isn’t the only thing waiting for her in this new life.
A silent killer who watches her like prey.
A manipulative genius who wants to unravel her secrets.
A gentle protector who sees the girl she hides.
And a dangerous man who thrives in chaos.
As the world burns and power shifts, they’re all drawn to her, each with their own motives, each with their own darkness. Even her past refuses to stay buried.
Because now, the man who once abandoned her is back, broken, desperate, and begging for a second chance. Too bad she has no time for regrets.
Not when she’s busy rising to power… and building a kingdom in the ruins of the world.
'Zsystem' is where I found myself as the sole survivor of the apocalypse.
The system is supposed to be my mother's "in sample" antidote to cure the virus. She was a mad scientist of the base where uninfected humans habitats to survive from the outer world.
While she is burying herself with works, I decided to be the useless child and the only one she has. Isn't it amusing! Being treated as the daughter of a crazy woman who is obsessed with antidotes. Even after failing hundreds and thousands of times.
She should know my well-being but she didn't. No matter how much of a genius I am, it's worthless! I am still garbage in her eyes...! I tried so hard to make her proud but all she cares about is the antidotes and saving humanity!
She even left me under my aunt's care. Not looking back even
once...!
Well, that is what I thought before the zombies conquer the base and being forced to drink a certain red liquid which is the antidote! Alast, being thrown
into a foreign system.

Bima is just an introverted, scrawny kid used to living behind a gaming screen and being a constant target for body shaming. But his life takes a drastic turn when he wakes up in a ruined city crawling with zombies. In the midst of the chaos, something even stranger than the apocalypse emerges: the "Single Survival System," which hits him with absurd missions likes maintaining an ideal BMI, getting revenge on his bullies, and landing his first kiss. Every mission isn't just a ridiculous challenge; it’s a matter of life and death.
Forced out of his comfort zone, Bima must face his dark past. He crosses paths with Donny, his former bully who is now a zombie, and Kevin, an ex-gym influencer who has transformed into a fanatical cult leader obsessed with the perfect physique and extreme protein intake. Amidst the chaos, Bima meets Lia, a tough convenience store clerk who harbors a deep-seated trauma toward food. Together, they survive nonsensical threats, ranging from zombie food vloggers obsessed with livestreaming death to grotesque mutants lurking underground.
But the madness is only the beginning. Bima’s reckless actions catch the attention of a far more dangerous entity: the Master AI Fitness Freak, an artificial intelligence that views humans as inefficient unless they meet extreme nutritional standards. With the help of Riska, an AI with cold, business-like logic that shares a secret connection to Bima’s past, the battle shifts into a clash of ideologies: perfection versus happiness.
In a world that worships muscles, protein, and ruthless efficiency, Bima fights back in an unexpected way, using Indomie as a symbol of balance, hope, and humanity.
When the zombie apocalypse begins, Audrey's boyfriend leaves her behind to die.
He chooses the prettier girl. The easier choice.
He doesn't know Audrey will wake up forty-five hours in the past with one impossible advantage.
LUS.
A mysterious Level-Up System that measures life like an accountant measures profit. Every choice is an investment. Every mistake becomes a liability. Every mission offers power... if she survives long enough to collect it.
This time, Audrey refuses to waste another second on people who never valued her.
As the world collapses, Audrey builds more than a fortress. Every mission brings new power... and another dangerously capable man whose fate becomes tied to hers.
Among them is Ronan, a quiet survivor who seems strangely familiar, as though he's carrying memories that don't belong to this lifetime. The more Audrey grows stronger, the more dangerous the truth becomes. Not everyone earned a second chance... and someone else may be playing the same game.
Her ex will regret abandoning her.
The dead will keep coming.
And the only rule that matters is simple:
Level up... or die.
Talking about the journey of the 'Solo Leveling' author, Chugong, just fills me with admiration! From various interviews, he's shared how the series began as a web novel, which he initially wrote to explore his creativity. It was fascinating to hear him mention that he faced a great deal of pressure and doubts at the beginning. He concentrated on building a world that resonated with readers, and his dedication truly paid off! The series exploded in popularity, and this was when adaptations into a webtoon and video game followed, which sparked even more interest.
Chugong also reflected on the impact that fan reactions had on him. He described moments of anxiety, worrying if he could live up to the expectations after the novel gained such a substantial following. He emphasized the importance of reader feedback, saying it not only motivated him but also helped refine the storyline and characters. You can really tell how passionate he is about his work—it’s so inspiring to think about how an author can develop an entire universe from an idea that started as a side project.
What really struck me was his perspective on balancing storytelling and character development. During some interviews, he mentioned that he always aims for his readers to connect with the protagonists, making their struggles feel personal. It’s this depth of connection that has me continually coming back to the series, feeling like I’m right there with Jinwoo through all his challenges. It’s rich stories like 'Solo Leveling' that remind us why we fell in love with this medium in the first place!
This question pops up a lot in fan spaces. The original Korean author is Chugong. I say original because the whole Solo Leveling IP is a bit of a collaborative beast. It started as a web novel on KakaoPage, written by Chugong, then got the phenomenal webcomic adaptation by artists Dubu (Redice Studio) and Jang Sung-rak. Tragically, Dubu passed away in 2022. It’s important to separate the author of the source material from the adaptation team.
Chugong’s other major work is ‘Only I Level Up’, which is... the original Korean title for Solo Leveling. Outside of that, he hasn’t published a massive library under that pen name. There was some early chatter about another project, but the insane success of Solo Leveling seems to have consumed everything. The rumor mill suggests he’s been heavily involved in the multimedia expansion—the manhwa, the anime, the games—which explains the lack of a follow-up novel series. It feels like he put everything into this one world.
The author of 'Solo Leveling' is Chugong, a South Korean novelist who truly carved out a niche in the web novel community. What’s really fascinating is how he drew inspiration from various sources, especially video games and other web novels. You can sense a blending of RPG mechanics and fantasy storytelling in his work, which makes 'Solo Leveling' so engaging! It's like stepping into a world where leveling up isn't just a mechanic; it's an integral part of the narrative.
Chugong had been a webcomic artist before becoming a novelist, and I think that visual storytelling experience really shines through in the pacing and descriptions in 'Solo Leveling.' I’ve seen many readers express how they can picture each scene vividly, and that's no coincidence! He's definitely creating something special, where the idea of the underdog rising to power resonates with anyone who's ever felt overlooked. The meticulous way he develops his characters, particularly Sung Jin-Woo, makes readers root for him as he battles his way through dungeons. That relentless spirit to overcome challenges? It's both relatable and exhilarating!
So, in a way, Chugong is not just rehashing tropes; he's revolutionizing them. He’s taken the concept of the ‘weak becoming strong’ and expanded it into such a dynamic and captivating universe. It's this blend of inspiration and personal experience that really fuels his storytelling genius!
Ever since I stumbled upon 'Solo Leveling', I've been obsessed with its world-building and intense action sequences. The original web novel was written by Chugong, but 'Un-Solo Leveling' is actually a fan-made parody or alternative take on the story, not an official work. From what I've gathered in online forums, it's created by various fan authors who reimagine Sung Jin-Woo's journey with twists—some comedic, some darker.
Honestly, diving into fan creations like this reminds me how vibrant and creative fandoms can be. Even if unofficial, they add layers to stories we love, sparking debates and fresh theories. I’d recommend checking out platforms like Archive of Our Own or fan subreddits to explore these reimagined versions—just don’t confuse them with canon!
