I'm fascinated by the business side. Why hasn't a big player like Amazon made a Kindle Unlimited that includes Audible content? Even as a higher-tier subscription. They have the content. It feels like they're leaving money on the table. Until they do, the free/cheap market will remain split.

I've had a surprisingly good experience with the 'Books' app on iPhone for sideloaded content. You can drag and drop EPUB files into iTunes (or Finder on Mac) and they sync wirelessly. For audiobooks, if you have MP3s, you can add them to the Music app as 'Audiobooks' so they don't shuffle. It's a bit techy, but totally free and integrated.

Audiobooks are so data-heavy! That's another hidden cost of 'free'—if you're not on WiFi, you're burning through your mobile data to stream that 20-hour fantasy epic. Libby and Hoopla let you download for offline listening, which is crucial. Always check for that feature before committing to any 'free' app.

The real answer might depend on your definition of 'free.' If you consider a library card 'free' (it is!), then Libby/Hoopla. If you consider a subscription service's trial period 'free,' then Scribd/Everand. If you only want content that costs literally zero money forever, then it's public domain works via Gutenberg and LibriVox.

Audiobooks are a lifesaver for my dog walks. Makes the time fly. I just use whatever my library gives me access to; the specific app name isn't as important as the routine it enables.

Which free books app for iPhone supports both ebooks and audiobooks?

Libby is the powerhouse for this, hands down. It connects to your local library card, giving you access to a massive catalog of ebooks and audiobooks at zero cost. The interface is clean and intuitive, making borrowing and downloading a breeze. I've listened to dozens of audiobooks while commuting and switched seamlessly to the ebook version at home. There's a hold system for popular titles, which is the only real 'cost' of it being free, but you can place multiple holds and they notify you when it's ready. It completely replaced my Audible subscription for anything that isn't an Audible exclusive.

Are you in the UK? If so, BorrowBox is fantastic and works exactly how you described. My local library partnership gives me access to their whole collection. The app itself is pretty smooth, and I love that my progress syncs between the ebook and audiobook versions of the same title. It's not perfect—the UI can be a little clunky sometimes—but for a free service funded by libraries, it's incredible.

Hoopla is another library-based app that offers a mix. You get ebooks, audiobooks, comics, movies, and music. Your borrows are instant, with no waitlists, but you have a monthly borrow limit set by your library. The audiobook player is fine, and the ebook reader gets the job done. It complements Libby nicely because if a book has a long wait on Libby, it might be available right away on Hoopla. Completely free with a library card, and it fills that 'I want it now' urge.

Does the best iPhone book app support audiobooks?

my iPad's packed with reading apps, so I've tested a ton. The best iPhone book app? Hands down, it's got to support audiobooks nowadays—reading with your ears is just as crucial as with your eyes. Apps like 'Audible' or even Apple Books blend seamless switching between text and audio, which is perfect for commuting or lazy Sundays. What really sells it for me is syncing progress across devices—start a chapter on audio during a jog, then pick up visually at home. Some apps even highlight text as the narration plays, which is genius for retention. The only gripe? Subscription models can nickel-and dime you, but libraries like Libby fix that with free audiobooks if you don’t mind waiting.

Are there any free book apps for iPhone downloading?

There are so many great options for free book apps to dive into on an iPhone! One of my favorites is Libby, which connects you to your local library's e-book and audiobook collection. It’s like having a library in your pocket! Just search for the titles you want, borrow them, and you’re good to go. The interface is super user-friendly, which is a plus for anyone who isn’t very tech-savvy. Plus, if you’re into audiobooks, you can easily switch between reading and listening. Another gem is Kindle, where you can find tons of free books, especially classics that are public domain. It’s also integrated with Amazon, so if you buy any e-books, they sync across your devices. And let’s not forget the endless great options on Project Gutenberg! Their app allows you to load so many classic literature titles directly to your phone. Seriously, if you love reading, it's hard to beat the sheer volume of what you can find on these platforms. For something more niche, there’s Wattpad. This app is like a treasure trove of indie authors and original stories, some incredible, some a bit rough around the edges, but there’s never a dull moment. You can even connect with other readers and writers, which feels like being part of a community that loves stories just as much as you do. So, those are some amazing apps you can check out! Every time I open one, it feels like I’m about to embark on a new adventure!
