If you’re into detailed fight choreography and weapon descriptions, later books might have more varied action set pieces. 'Rain Fall' has its share, but it’s more about surveillance and a slower burn. If action is your primary draw, 'Hard Rain' or 'Rain Storm' might be more instantly gratifying.

Contrary to most advice, I’d argue 'Hard Rain' is a better starting point if you prefer a story that’s already in motion and less introspective. Rain’s core personality is established, the pacing is relentless, and the stakes feel more personal right off the bat. It was the second book published, but it works as a solid entry because Eisler recaps just enough without spoon-feeding.

You get a sense of his skills and his world-weariness without the slower setup of the debut. Some series benefit from starting at the beginning, but thriller series like this can often be sampled out of order. Try 'Hard Rain'; if you like the voice and action, you can always circle back to 'Rain Fall' later.
