But talking in terms of individual people it would be Tanjiro Kamado; it was he who ended Muzan. At the same time, it's worth pointing out that Tanjiro, in fighting with Muzan, killed him in actual fact. Muzan's final defeat was brought about by this continuous striking and all-out group attack on the part of Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Kanao: Timing was just as important as coordinating their efforts. Tanzan Kibutsuji does not favor anyone in particular among his demons, since they are all simply tools with which he can obtain his goals. In the case of Upper One, Kokushibo may have received the best treatment from Master Muzan because of its strength and loyalty as a senior member within Kizuki Twelve Fold. But as for other moons at that level they have both greater upper remaining strength and potentially large worth to Muzan as a breeding ground for new members.

Muzan Kibutsuji from 'Demon Slayer' is, as it's revealed, over 1000 years old. As the first Demon, his longevity is certainly exceptional. His goal to eliminate the sun's threat to his existence adds a complex layer to his character.

In 'Demon Slayer', Muzan Kibutsuji murdered Nakime for a calculated reason. As the leader of the twelve Kizuki, his motive was to essentially upgrade his demon army. He believed that by killing and replacing his lower rank demons with more powerful ones, he would be able to finally achieve his goal of immortality and invincibility. Nakime's death, though chilling, served a purpose in his grand scheme.
