In What Order Should I Read James Patterson’S Women’S Murder Club Books?
Reading order for the Women's Murder Club series is all over the place. Need the chronological list for Lindsay Boxer and the club.

I'm a mood reader, so I sometimes rebel against prescribed order. But for this series, I surrendered. The character development is too tightly serialized. You need to see the consequences of one book's events ripple into the next.
A decision Lindsay makes in '4th of July' affects her credibility in 'The 5th Horseman'. A loss in '9th Judgment' casts a shadow over '10th Anniversary'. It's all connected. Treating them as isolated stories misses the point entirely.

That list is surprisingly tricky to nail down! The core series order starts with '1st to Die', then '2nd Chance', '3rd Degree', '4th of July', 'The 5th Horseman', 'The 6th Target', '7th Heaven', '8th Confession', '9th Judgment', '10th Anniversary', '11th Hour', '12th of Never', 'Unlucky 13', '14th Deadly Sin', '15th Affair', '16th Seduction', '17th Suspect', '18th Abduction', '19th Christmas', '20th Victim', '21st Birthday', and '22 Seconds'. Stick to that numerical sequence for the main story and character progression.
There are also some later crossovers and novellas, but they aren't essential for following the primary mysteries. Starting anywhere else would definitely spoil prior relationships and case resolutions.

What's the rush? Savor them. Read them in order, but don't binge them all at once. You might get procedural fatigue. Read one, then read something else, then come back for the next. That's how they were originally released, with waiting periods in between.
That pacing lets each story settle. The emotional cliffhangers and personal developments linger more. Rushing through all 22 in a row might make them blur together. Treat it like a long-term book club with yourself.

I eliminate threats to The Family.
And Taylor is a threat.
But I don’t want to kill her.
Possessing her, making her love me seems like a much better plan for this particular Juror.

“If I could not escape in peace as the victim, then this time, I would be the executioner. This time… I would kill him first.”
Forced into a marriage of convenience to secure the Sinclair family’s billion-dollar inheritance, Julia spends ten years trapped with a cold and unfaithful husband. On the very day she is finally supposed to be free, she is betrayed, humiliated… and murdered by her own husband and his lover.
But she wakes up on her wedding day.
Protected by an amulet passed down through the women of her family, she relives the same cycle for the third time. In her previous attempts, running away and submitting did not prevent her death. Now, Julia decides to change the rules: instead of trying to survive, she will seek revenge.
Colder and more dangerous, Julia begins manipulating the Sinclair power games while growing closer to Caleb, her husband’s best friend, the only man who ever treated her as a choice rather than an obligation. Scarred by deep trauma, Julia struggles to trust again, while Caleb slowly wins her over with respect, consistency, and loyalty.
Amid love triangles, betrayals, family secrets, and premeditated murder, Julia plans to destroy Michael, frame his lover, and bring down the empire that imprisoned her.
But the greatest choice will not be revenge.
It will be allowing herself to love again.

He saved her from a lifetime of slaving away at a strip club, but the next thing she knows, she's plunged into the dark and dangerous world of organized crime...
The co-authors really shape the voice. The books with Maxine Paetro have a slightly different rhythm than the earlier ones. Reading in order lets you adjust to that shift naturally, as it happened for readers waiting for the next annual release.
If you jump into a Paetro-era book first, you might find the prose style is what you expect, then be disappointed if you go back to an earlier one. Or vice-versa. Consistency is easier if you experience the evolution linearly.
My library's ebook service has them all, but they're not always available in order. I put holds on '1st to Die' through '4th of July' and am just waiting my turn. The consensus here convinced me not to just grab whatever is available first. The wait for the early books will be worth it to get the proper foundation. Thanks, all, for saving me from a potentially confusing entry point.
My book club did the first one and then skipped to the most recent one at the time. It was a fascinating comparison. The differences in pacing, social commentary, and character priorities were stark. It was like checking in on old friends after a decade. I wouldn't recommend that as a standard reading method, but as a one-off experiment, it highlighted how long the series has been running and how the world (and the authors) have changed.
Is the series still worth reading in order all these years later? I'd say yes, but with tempered expectations. The first handful are genre-defining for their time—fast-paced, female-centric procedurals. Reading them sequentially shows the evolution of the crime thriller genre itself, from the early 2000s to now. Later books feel more streamlined, maybe a bit repetitive. The order gives you context for that shift in the publishing landscape.
The correct order is whatever gets you reading them. If you pick up 'The 8th Confession' at an airport and love it, great! You can always go back later. Gatekeeping reading order can be a barrier to entry. The most important thing is that people are reading and enjoying these stories.
So yes, there's an official order, and it enhances the experience. But if someone dives in at book 15 and gets hooked, that's a win. They can always fill in the backstory later. The books are designed to be engaging enough to stand alone for the most part. Let's not make it seem like a homework assignment.
For a completist, there are also the short stories and novellas, like 'The Trial' and 'The Medical Examiner'. These are often set between the main novels. I'd suggest ignoring those until after you've read a few of the main books. They're like DVD bonus features—enjoyable for fans, but not necessary for newcomers. If you start with a short story, you might not have enough connection to the characters to care. Stick to the numbered novels for your proper introduction.
Co-authorship is a big part of this. From 'The 5th Horseman' onward, Maxine Paetro is heavily involved. The writing style does shift subtly. Reading in order lets you see that evolution rather than being thrown by a sudden change in prose or dialogue pacing between books written by different pairings.
It's not just about the order, but the format. If you're into audiobooks, the narrators change occasionally throughout the series, which can be jarring. I'd recommend sticking with the reading order list above, but maybe sample the audio versions before committing to a whole book. Some fans have strong preferences for certain narrators over others, especially in the later installments.
