Wikipedia has a clean, numbered list. Just search 'Women's Murder Club' and scroll to the bibliography section. It's all there, in order, with publication years. That's your definitive source. Print it out or save it as a note on your phone. Problem solved.

The later books, especially from 'The 9th Judgment' onward, often have two distinct case threads running in parallel—a main, high-stakes investigation and a secondary, sometimes more personal mystery. This structure becomes a hallmark of the series, and it's interesting to see how it develops when you read sequentially, compared to the more singular focus of the very first book.

The dynamic between the four women is everything. If you jump into a later book, you're supposed to just accept this ironclad friendship, but seeing it built from the ground up in '1st to Die'—the trust forged in crisis—makes their loyalty in later books so much more meaningful. The sequence is crucial for the emotional foundation.

The co-authorship model means Patterson outlines the story, and another writer fleshes it out. For the WMC series, Maxine Paetro has been the constant voice for most of it. Reading in sequence, you're really following her interpretation and development of these characters as much as Patterson's initial blueprint. It's a fascinating study in collaborative writing.

I love a long series, but even I took a break after the 15th book. The formula was wearing thin. A year later, I picked up the 16th and enjoyed it more with some distance. My advice for the sequence: don't be afraid to pace yourself. Sprinkle other genres in between to keep the club feeling fresh when you return.

Warning: This collection contains explicit adult content, including intense power dynamics, dominance/submission, dubious consent themes in fantasy context, BDSM elements, age-gap scenarios, breeding kink, group play undertones, and graphic sexual situations. All stories feature consenting adults in fictional scenarios.
In this scorching anthology, eight ruthless, ultra-wealthy billionaires each claim total ownership over the woman who enters their world—whether through debt, auction, obsession, or sheer predatory desire. Every novella stands alone, delivering a different flavor of erotic heat while threading the addictive "owned by the billionaire" fantasy throughout. Dive into whichever kink calls to you... or devour them all.
Jocelyn Marie is a widow who took over her late husband’s business. She threw herself into her work to dull the pain of her loss. After being invited out by Vincent, her business partner, and enjoying a fun night out with a bunch of his rough and tumble marine friends, she realizes just how lonely she is and is determined to take back her identity and her desire. When several of them show interest in her, she doesn’t hesitate to jump in with both feet. The marines are all interested in a multiple-partner relationship due to a promise they made to each other back in the service. They promised if any one of them found an exceptional woman who had a healing heart and was willing to take them all on, they would want the opportunity to share her and her love in the hopes she would be able to save them from themselves. For Jocelyn, she wants to get into this multiple-partner relationship to find herself again and bring meaning and joy back into her life. She has been falling down her own slippery slope of emotions, hardships and addictions. She wants to grab life by the horns, heal and just run with it. However, when they are faced with several adversities, terrible secrets, an unexpected pregnancy and heartbreak, can the group survive when the odds are stacked so high against them?

Book 1 Saints and Sinners
She was the light to my dark.
The saint to my sinner. with her innocent eyes and devilish curves.
A Madonna that was meant to be admired but never touched.
Until someone took that innocence from her.
She left.
The darkness in my heart was finally complete.
I avenged her, I killed for her, but she never came back.
Until I saw her again. An angel dancing around a pole for money.
She didn’t know I owned that club. She didn’t know I was watching.
This time I won’t let her escape.
I will make her back into the girl I knew.
Whether she likes it or not.
Book 2 Judge and Jury
I can’t stop watching her.
I’m not even sure I want to.
Taylor Lawson, blonde, beautiful, and totally oblivious to how much dangers she’s in.
She’s also the one juror in my upcoming murder trial that hasn’t been bought.
The one who can put me behind bars for a very long time.
I know I should execute her.
After all that’s what I do.
I am the Judge.
I eliminate threats to The Family.
And Taylor is a threat.
But I don’t want to kill her.
Possessing her, making her love me seems like a much better plan for this particular Juror.

“If I could not escape in peace as the victim, then this time, I would be the executioner. This time… I would kill him first.”
Forced into a marriage of convenience to secure the Sinclair family’s billion-dollar inheritance, Julia spends ten years trapped with a cold and unfaithful husband. On the very day she is finally supposed to be free, she is betrayed, humiliated… and murdered by her own husband and his lover.
But she wakes up on her wedding day.
Protected by an amulet passed down through the women of her family, she relives the same cycle for the third time. In her previous attempts, running away and submitting did not prevent her death. Now, Julia decides to change the rules: instead of trying to survive, she will seek revenge.
Colder and more dangerous, Julia begins manipulating the Sinclair power games while growing closer to Caleb, her husband’s best friend, the only man who ever treated her as a choice rather than an obligation. Scarred by deep trauma, Julia struggles to trust again, while Caleb slowly wins her over with respect, consistency, and loyalty.
Amid love triangles, betrayals, family secrets, and premeditated murder, Julia plans to destroy Michael, frame his lover, and bring down the empire that imprisoned her.
But the greatest choice will not be revenge.
It will be allowing herself to love again.

Series of stories of sizzling hot bad boy billionaires, who are devils in the sheets and out of it, tamed by feisty female leads.
Each story can be read as a standalone, but some characters make appearances in various stories.
Dive in for a long thick...I meant a good long ride,
Unless you would rather be bad,
Very bad.
The co-authors really shape the voice. The books with Maxine Paetro have a slightly different rhythm than the earlier ones. Reading in order lets you adjust to that shift naturally, as it happened for readers waiting for the next annual release.
If you jump into a Paetro-era book first, you might find the prose style is what you expect, then be disappointed if you go back to an earlier one. Or vice-versa. Consistency is easier if you experience the evolution linearly.
Is the series still worth reading in order all these years later? I'd say yes, but with tempered expectations. The first handful are genre-defining for their time—fast-paced, female-centric procedurals. Reading them sequentially shows the evolution of the crime thriller genre itself, from the early 2000s to now. Later books feel more streamlined, maybe a bit repetitive. The order gives you context for that shift in the publishing landscape.
My book club did the first one and then skipped to the most recent one at the time. It was a fascinating comparison. The differences in pacing, social commentary, and character priorities were stark. It was like checking in on old friends after a decade. I wouldn't recommend that as a standard reading method, but as a one-off experiment, it highlighted how long the series has been running and how the world (and the authors) have changed.
My library's ebook service has them all, but they're not always available in order. I put holds on '1st to Die' through '4th of July' and am just waiting my turn. The consensus here convinced me not to just grab whatever is available first. The wait for the early books will be worth it to get the proper foundation. Thanks, all, for saving me from a potentially confusing entry point.
I'm a mood reader, so I sometimes rebel against prescribed order. But for this series, I surrendered. The character development is too tightly serialized. You need to see the consequences of one book's events ripple into the next.
A decision Lindsay makes in '4th of July' affects her credibility in 'The 5th Horseman'. A loss in '9th Judgment' casts a shadow over '10th Anniversary'. It's all connected. Treating them as isolated stories misses the point entirely.
Co-authorship is a big part of this. From 'The 5th Horseman' onward, Maxine Paetro is heavily involved. The writing style does shift subtly. Reading in order lets you see that evolution rather than being thrown by a sudden change in prose or dialogue pacing between books written by different pairings.
