If you're trying to navigate the 'Hush, Hush' Saga, the publication order is your most straightforward path. You'd start with the original four-book series: 'Hush, Hush', 'Crescendo', 'Silence', and 'Finale'. That's the core arc of Nora and Patch's story. However, the reading order gets a bit more interesting because there's also a prequel novel, 'Black Ice', which is set several years before the main events.
There are two main ways to approach it, and both have merit. Reading in publication order means you experience the mystery as it was originally intended, with the lore about Nephilim and fallen angels unfolding alongside Nora. If you read 'Black Ice' first, you get a deeper, immediate understanding of the story's world and the history of the Coldwater town, which can color your perception of the later books, but it might also spoil some of the atmospheric reveals in the initial trilogy.
My personal recommendation is to follow the publication order. I think 'Hush, Hush' does a fantastic job of building that mysterious, tense vibe between Nora and Patch, and jumping into the prequel afterward feels like a rewarding deep dive into the lore. It’s like getting the answers to questions you didn’t even know you had yet. The emotional payoff in 'Finale' hits harder when you’ve followed the main journey from the very first uncertain moment Nora meets Patch in biology class.
The saga also includes novellas like 'Forgotten' and 'Lost', but those are best slotted in after you've finished the main quartet, as they provide extra character perspectives without disrupting the primary narrative flow.

Esmeralda Cantari has spent her life being told she is a mistake.
The unwanted daughter of a powerful angel prince and a disgraced witch, she was cast aside by her father and barely tolerated by her mother’s coven. When her magic fails to appear like every other young mage’s, the coven finally exiles her for good.

Yet strange things are already happening around the academy. Students are disappearing. Bodies are found drained of blood. And rumors of ancient monsters once thought extinct begin to circulate.
The only people who seem to notice Esmeralda’s true potential are the most feared group of heirs at Rosewood: a shadow demon with dangerous curiosity, a brooding shifter whose beast reacts to her presence, a brilliant mage who feels he’s seen her before, a relentless fae warrior who sees her strength, and an angel prince who is watching her far too closely.
As the mystery deepens, Esmeralda begins to realize her awakening may not be a coincidence.

Their bonds are brutal. Addictive. Dangerous.

Just pulled my old copies off the shelf, and there's actually a bit of confusion because Becca Fitzpatrick released a prequel years after the original quartet. The core order is 'Hush, Hush', then 'Crescendo', 'Silence', and 'Finale'. That's the main Nora and Patch story.
But then she dropped 'Black Ice', which is a separate novel in the same universe—it follows different characters but has some very subtle connections. After that, the prequel 'Dangerous Lies' came out, focusing on Patch's past way before the events of the first book. Most fans I know read it last, almost like an extended lore bonus. Personally, I'd stick to the main four first, then explore the others if you're still hooked.
