The Stand has epic, apocalyptic scope, but some of its most horrific moments are intimate and psychological. The prolonged death of Larry Underwood's mother in the tunnel, alone and in the dark. Harold Lauder's internal descent from insecure teen to vengeful, obsessive villain, fueled by jealousy and a twisted diary. Nadine's psychological torment and manipulation by Randall Flagg. These are character-driven horrors that explore how people break and rebuild under world-ending pressure. The supernatural evil is there, but the human reactions to it are the true psychological study.
The Running Man (as Bachman) is relentless, dystopian action, but its psychological core is the dehumanizing pressure of the game show, the commodification of life and death for entertainment, and Ben Richards's desperate, nihilistic rage. The horror is in the systemic cruelty, the public's bloodlust, and one man's psychological journey from desperate participant to vengeful symbol. It's a bleak look at media, poverty, and how a system can grind a person down until all that's left is a burning need to strike back.
Secret Window, Secret Garden (from 'Four Past Midnight') is a taut psychological thriller about a writer accused of plagiarism by a sinister stranger. The horror is in the gaslighting, the isolation, and the protagonist's own unraveling grip on reality as he tries to prove his innocence. Is Mort Rainey being stalked, or is he having a psychotic break? The line between external threat and internal breakdown is masterfully blurred, making it a perfect example of the 'is it real or is it all in his head?' school of psychological terror that King excels at.
Doctor Sleep, the sequel to 'The Shining', offers a different kind of psychological horror. For Danny Torrance, it's the lifelong management of trauma, addiction, and his 'shining' ability. The True Knot, while supernatural, also represent a terrifying psychological concept: beings who feed on the pain and fear of others, literally consuming innocence to survive. The book is about recovery, facing the ghosts of the past (both literal and metaphorical), and the strength found in forging new connections to combat old horrors. It's a more hopeful, but no less psychologically rich, journey.
Sleeping Beauties presents an intriguing psychological premise: what if all the women in the world fell into a cocooned sleep, and the men were left alone? The horror is in the societal and psychological collapse from both sides—the men's fear, paranoia, and aggression in the face of the unknown, and the women's shared, peaceful dream-state that offers an escape from the world men created. It's a massive thought experiment about gender, power, and the fragile psychology of a world suddenly and violently unbalanced.

"You think you can just leave without a trace after what happened that night?" His hands pinned her arms above her head, his piercing blue eyes boring into hers.
"W-what do you mean?" she stuttered, his scent reminding her of that night—the night that had changed her life completely.
"What do I mean? Are you seriously asking me that, woman? If your brain can't recall how we burned together on that bed, how about I remind you right here?" His face was dangerously close as he growled into her ear.
Her eyes widened. He meant it. Every single word. He was the king of the entertainment world, after all.
"Let me go," she demanded stubbornly, her voice barely audible. He let out a low, dark chuckle that sent a chill down her spine.
"Let you go? Oh, I'll let you go, Tatiana. But not until you understand the consequences of crossing paths with me."

I always found the long-form descent in 'It' to be profoundly psychological. Sure, there's a clown monster, but Pennywise feeds on specific, personal fears. Each character's confrontation is a battle with their own deepest childhood trauma. The real horror for the adult characters is returning to that mental state, facing what they buried. The book spends so much time inside their heads, making the fear feel individualized and deep.
