Everything about her was something that I could not help but find myself admiring. She was fighting me at every step, and yet I couldn’t stop showing up. Anthony's deep and cold voice could be heard. Anne turned her stiffened neck, and when she met Anthony's vicious gaze, her body turned to jelly and she took two steps back. Under the daylight, her face turned paler and paler. "It has nothing to do with Anne. I'm the one who came to see her." Lucas' expression was cold. "Anthony, Anne is your wife and the mother of your children. How can you lock her here like an animal? What are you thinking?"

Just… emptiness. “I’ve always been this way,” I murmured, almost ashamed to say it aloud. “Wolfless.” Lyra was quiet for a long beat, then surprised me by saying gently, “Or maybe just hidden.” My head snapped up. “What do you mean?” But before she could answer, the door creaked open and that presence I’d felt before, sharp and commanding, washed into the room like a wave.
