CEO’s regret: Winning my wife back
He leans forward, grabs a bottle of water from the front, and hands it to me.
I take it and chug the entire thing, the cool liquid soothing my raw throat.
“Thanks,” I mutter, sniffing.
“I’m sorry,” Arthur says quietly.
My heart twists violently. He shouldn’t be apologizing. I’m the hot mess here— not him.
“It’s okay.” I force a smile. “I’m just… stressed from work and teaching. You know how it is.”
Arthur doesn’t buy it. I can see it in his eyes.
“You can always quit if you want to,” he starts, then pauses when my expression falters. “But I know you won’t. You seem happiest when you’re playing the piano.”
