It's Astrid. She is just as enormous as I remember with her brown fur and muscles. Bigger than most zareth hunters. Lungs steaming in the cold night, fur bristling, eyes glowing with battle-fury. Her scent hits me like cold iron. This is what a warrior Beta looks like. She leaps past me, landing on a vampire behind me. I’m impressed. Astrid is a wall of snarling muscle. Another vampire lunges from the shadows, and she launches at him, jaws clamping onto his shoulder. Then she tosses him like he weighs nothing.

Kaidën was nowhere to be found and to me he's the only reason I attend dreadful events like this. Xylara's mood seemed to be off as well. She was trying her best to maintain her good girl image talking to everyone with elegance and respect, I would've left everyone cursing at me if I was in her place. Just as I was starting to think that I couldn't take it anymore, one of the elder pack members approached me. "Astrid, we need your help with something," she said, her voice firm but polite. "One of the younger wolves has gotten into a bit of trouble, and we need someone to help calm them down."

Viktor stands quietly behind me, like a shadow, while Hugo, ever the master of the room, takes his place beside me. “Welcome, Mr. Jayden Brennan,” Hugo says, his voice formal, but there’s an unmistakable edge of condescension in his tone. “Let me introduce the key members of your team.” He gestures to the woman seated directly across from me. “This is Astrid Koenig, our Head of Operations.” Astrid stands to greet me with a nod. She’s tall and striking, with a platinum blonde bob that’s sharp enough to cut glass. “Mr. Brennan,” Astrid says, her tone clipped and efficient. “It’s a pleasure.” But there’s no smile, no warmth. Just business.

Astrid shouted, her voice cutting through the tension like a knife. I froze in my tracks, my anger simmering as I turned back to face her. “Pardon?” I demanded, my voice edged with disbelief and fury. “I, ASTRID SAFIYA, LUNA OF THE RED MOON PACK AND ALPHA OF THE BLUESTONE PACK, HEREBY BANISH YOU FROM EVER SETTING FOOT WITHIN THE PACK’S BORDERS,” She declared bluntly, her tone authoritative and firm. Her words stung like a blow, and a bitter scoff escaped my lips as I stormed toward her, my rage barely contained.

"You have nothing to be sorry about. It was not your fault." It was then I noticed my surroundings was different. "Where are we?" I asked. "Oh..here? Uhm...it might sound complex but, we are at Astrid's place." He replied. That name. It rang a bell. "Astrid...who is that?" "She is someone who has lived for centuries and has overseen Shadow Runners pack since the beginning. She is half wolf, half witch." He tried to explain. I could remember the person's appearance vividly. "You mean to tell me that young looking woman is an immortal?"

“What? We're friends now? You’re going to pretend you didn’t almost rip out my thigh when we were at school together?” “You were a bully!” She squeals, jabbing her elbow into my rib. "Can't blame me for trying to fight to keep my fiancé! Would you have let a random woman take Rune away from you had you been me?" Astrid's painstakingly beautiful features turn scary as she bares her smile that's all sharp canines. "I'm not a random woman. I am his mate!"

Behind me, howls erupted. I turned—and my heart soared. The North Star pack had arrived. They poured over the ridge in a wave of white and silver, their blue eyes blazing with ancient fury, their voices raised in a battle cry that shook the very mountains. They moved as one creature, flowing down the slope like an avalanche of fur and fangs and frozen wrath. At their head ran a figure I recognized—Astrid, Stellan's grandmother, her ancient form somehow terrible and beautiful in equal measure. Even at her age, she moved with the speed and grace of a wolf half her years, her silver fur streaming behind her like a banner of war.

The four of us stand up when five extremely large men walk in. “I am Kaden, and this is my cousin Alek. These two here are Brent and Lance.” I say. “Hey, I am Curtis, and this is Venom,” Curtis says. “I am Quade, and this is Zion. I am assuming you know Chaos.” Quade states.

I’m obviously failing at it because she’s watching me carefully, studying my every move as she sips her latte. “So…” I begin, attempting to break the ice and act natural, hoping to shift any suspicion off of me. “How was the date night on Saturday?” Astrid’s lips spread into a bright smile. “It was great!” she chirps, light brown curls bouncing as she speaks animatedly. “It was nice to just reconnect a bit, ya know? With how stressful things have been lately, we both needed it. Brock may seem like a meanie but he’s a big ol’ teddy bear deep down, staying in and snuggling on the couch is his favorite thing.”

Astrid’s entire body felt cold when she saw that and she smiled brightly on the end. After Max was done drinking, he felt something weird and he clutched his head, he looked t Astrid who smiled and said, “it was nice knowing you uncle, hope you will be a good person in your next life.” ~~~ Hayley smiled when she received Astrid’s text and went to her own house to pay a little visit to her parents. When she came there, she saw that her step mother was making some food for the two of them. Hayley waited for a while and when Beth was gone away from the kitchen she slowly went to the kitchen and took some drops from both the bottles before putting it into the food.
