I was glad to see that she was not one of those people to hold onto their anger and irritations. “Well, I’m glad it was you then.” I looked around the area and realized she was right. Only someone used to this area would be able to pick something out. Everything seemed so ordinary. The grass in the field was beginning to brown as the changing of the season progressed. Soon, the air would become chilled. Autumn was my favorite time of year because I liked the cooler weather and Blaze loved running through the forest with the dying leaves crunching under his paws. Again, I was thankful for the nature spread throughout our territory. This would suck.

When my eyes met his, I felt a small flutter, and was quick to push it away. “Well let’s get this over with,” I said. The path we walk is wide and mostly covered in fallen, beautiful leaves. Tall trees surround us, as well as the soft sounds of nature. Shane is to my left and Kale is to my right. There is a certain peace in this moment. We are too busy soaking it all up that there are no words spoken among us. Maybe they were right. Maybe this was just what I needed. I see a bench off to the side of the path, and make my way over, taking a seat.

The autumn that followed was a long, slow exhale. The fierce colors of the bluff softened to rust and ochre, and the air grew sharp with the scent of woodsmoke and decaying leaves. The bustle of summer was a memory; the town settled into its slower, more thoughtful self. We did too.

Nova POV Today was the kind of day that was so beautiful it made me almost feel hope. The sun is shining, that late spring sunshine, where there is still a chill to the breeze but so long as you stay out of the shade it is perfectly warm. I love this time of year when the promise of warm summer nights is coming in and the new life of spring is everywhere. I was currently sat on a bench in my local park, looking at the boating lake stretched out before me.

Sola handed him a bag of food for the drive without comment. He got in the car and drove through the gate and was gone. I stood at the gate for a moment after. The September morning was cooler than August had been. The first hint of autumn in the air. The particular quality of the air in this territory at the turn of the season, still warm but with something underneath that knew what was coming.

Our state, Vermont, had the largest growing maple trees. They changed colors around mid-September and continued changing through October. The shades of fiery red and golden yellow were dancing in the wind on top of the mountains.

She absently wondered if blue was his favorite color. The air was slightly chilly and the sky was gray. The sun would be completely gone in a matter of minutes, and Ru could smell autumn encroaching in the air. Soon, it would be October, and then the nights would really start to cool off.
