Most of the tension I see centers on whether interspecies relationships can actually work in that universe. The worldbuilding gives authors this huge playground of biological and social hurdles to jump. A rabbit dating a wolf isn't just a cute aesthetic—it’s a constant negotiation of instinct, prejudice, and physical danger. Authors love to dig into the logistics: can they even safely share a meal? What happens during a heated argument if tempers flare? That inherent danger creates a natural conflict engine, more compelling to me than just generic relationship drama.

I’ve read some stories that focus heavily on the social fallout, like Legoshi facing ostracization from other carnivores for ‘lowering’ himself, or Haru dealing with pity or disgust from her own community. The conflict isn’t just between the characters, but the entire world pushing back against them. That external pressure often forces internal dilemmas about identity and sacrifice, which tends to be where the best character development happens in these fics.

I spent way too long yesterday thinking about this, and it's actually harder than it looks. The animal metaphor aspect is so baked into 'Beastars' that you can't just drop Legoshi into any universe. You need a world with a similar kind of internal logic, or where the clash itself becomes the story.

One that clicked for me was the world of 'Blade Runner'. Think about it: Replicants are the ultimate 'predators' in a human society that fears them. Legoshi, struggling with his own predatory nature, meeting Roy Batty or K would be a fantastic mirror. The themes of identity, what it means to be 'real', and navigating a world that wants to kill you for what you are line up perfectly. You could have some amazing noir-style scenes of them talking on a rain-soaked rooftop.

Another weirdly good fit is 'The Witcher'. Geralt is a mutant, ostracized by humans and monsters alike. His relationship with the herbivore/carnivore dynamic is fascinating—he's a 'predator' who chooses not to be, a protector, but still viewed with fear. Him mentoring a young, confused Legoshi on how to live with that kind of burden writes itself. Plus, the gritty medieval setting would be a brutal but interesting shift from Cherryton's polished society.

Honestly, I'm less convinced by the obvious anime crossovers. Throwing him into 'My Hero Academia' feels too easy; the 'quirk' discrimination is there, but it loses the biological gut-punch of the original. The best crossovers use the setting to examine 'Beastars' themes from a new angle, not just for a fun fight scene.

Louis and Legoshi absolutely dominate the charts from what I've seen across AO3 and Tumblr. That tension they have in canon—the whole predator/prey dynamic layered with Louis's intense ambition and Legoshi's gentle awkwardness—just gives writers so much to play with. It's less about the romance that's shown and more about the potential simmering underneath every interaction.

You get everything from slow-burn office AUs where Louis is the CEO and Legoshi's the security guard who brings him coffee, to post-canon fics exploring how they'd actually make a relationship work with their different social circles. The appeal seems to be that push-pull, the challenge of bridging that inherent gap. I'd argue it's the backbone of a huge portion of the fandom's creative output.

Haru and Legoshi have their dedicated shippers too, of course, but the volume of content for Lougosi is on another level. Maybe because it feels like there's more ground to cover that the source material didn't.
