Beauty had a way of making people forget everyone here was born privileged. She stopped at the notice board and searched the quarter assessment rankings. Her name appeared in the top fifty, exactly where she expected it to be. A small smile touched her lips before she looked lower for Elena. It vanished when she found rank three hundred and fifty. Her eyes are lined with black eyeliners and her long lashes kiss each other as she blinked them. Her lips are painted with soft pink gloss, adding a touch of feminity to her look. The subtle highlight in her cheekbones made her face glow under the rays of the sun.

“We called them makeovers, but we only sometimes had something new. The real point is that I’m going to spend the next few hours making you feel beautiful.” Joli frowns. “The day after my parents….” “It’s not shallow.” I meet her gaze in the mirror. “Beauty is confidence. And being made beautiful is about letting someone take care of you.” A tear slips down her cheek. “All right. But I’m not spending all day in here.” I grab her chin and offer her the most Candace-like smile I can. “You’ll spend as long in here as I say you will.” Joli almost laughs, and that’s about all I could hope for.

Next Morning Hazel sat gracefully in her vanity chair, her corporate suit a stark contrast to the soft, feminine glow of her vanity lights. Her hair cascaded down her back like a rich, dark waterfall, its silken strands framing her face as she meticulously applied her makeup. The gentle strokes of her brush and the soft blush of color on her cheeks only added to her natural beauty, transforming her into a vision of loveliness.

She thought that maybe, like all spoiled brats, Eva would too insult her or treat her rudely, but no, she didn't. That's when the girl realized that not everyone was the same. Respect filled her eyes for Eva.
