His parents were direct warriors of the Alpha when they were still alive, both of whom were beta themselves. Judging on how Billy trained with them, he had exhibited excellent skills almost similar to their leader, Naya, but there were no actions from him that hinted at any possibility of being a full-blooded alpha. Sage silently watched as the other Midnight Seven members went to speak with Billy.

"No!" Tyler's whole body has started shaking in anger and he let out a ferocious growl. "I'm your Beta and I command you to leave before I kill you with bare hands." Shane stiffens and I can tell that his wolf is submitting to the Beta wolf who is a rank higher than that of the Gamma's. But I know Shane won't leave me even if it means he could be exiled. He could risk his life, but I don't want him to. I don't want him to feel like he has to choose. I can't be so selfish.

Gods dammit. Something else is wrong with this girl. I hate to say it but I don’t know if I could put up with the emotional turmoil a mate like this would give me.. They tell you about war. They tell you about running the pack, the finances, the hierarchy. They tell you that being a good Alpha comes with discipline, compassion and strict character. But they do not tell you that your Beta may become a world ending wolf if his rage is unchecked from the evils that are threatening his mate. They tell you how mates strengthen you and how if your mate is threatened or harmed it sends you into a rampage that sometimes you can’t control or would even be in your right mind to.

Your pack needs you.” The alpha added as he stepped closer to them, forcing me to stiffen. “I need my beta.” He lifted his hand and was seconds from touching her brown, wavy hair, but I was at his side, holding his hand away from her. “DO NOT TOUCH HER.” I growled dangerously. He ripped his hand out of mine before continuing to speak to her. Whatever. He could talk to her but not touch her. Which thankfully, he didn’t attempt again.

Of course, I knew what he was trying to do, so I replied casually, "I don't think I'm qualified to be a Beta anymore. I should stay at the ground level and reflect for a while. When I've realized my mistakes, I'll come back." Matt paused for a moment, then forced himself to stay patient. "Come on, don't be so rigid. Even if you're not Beta, you're still part of the pack. When the pack's interests are on the line, you can't just ignore it." I smiled. "What about your outstanding Beta? She's incredibly capable. I'm just someone who gets deals with her looks. How could I possibly compare to Peyton?" I couldn't see Matt's expression, but from his tone, I knew he was barely holding back his anger

“I’m an ordinary man too. I just happened to have a Beta post.” “A Beta? Oh Goddess!” She palmed her forehead as her expression turned worried. “What’s wrong? Don’t you want to be mated to a Beta?” I asked, trying to stop my forehead from creasing. “No. Not me. But you. I don’t even know how to be a mate. What more if I have to be a Beta Female? Not that I’m saying you will want me for a mate and a Beta Female…” “I want you…” I didn’t let her finish with her words, and red tints crept up her cheeks the moment my words registered with her.

I scoffed. “No, Alpha. Have mercy, I promise never to…” “Be quiet!” I growled, cutting him off. An idea snapped into my mind and I glanced at him with a sinister glimmer shimmering in my eyes. “Get up.” He raised his head from the ground and staggered to his feet, his eyes brimming with remorse. “You have to prove your loyalty to me if you want to remain the beta,” I muttered and he nodded. “I will do anything, Alpha, anything,” he gasped in determination.

With everything that was happening around me, I made a mental note about NEVER, NEVER discussing any of my plans with mom over the phone and would share the same with Mom. I repeat again that ‘JUST THE TITLE OF BETA FEMALE was given to me, not the powers and authority, not until I would get marked and mated with the Beta of the pack. After all this, both the pairs got themselves busy thanking the guest and all the tiny little functions that followed after that. “Are you getting bored?”, The Beta asked. Maybe he would have seen me making faces. “Yeah! I want to leave from here.”, I responded, getting irritated.
