Clasp of Life
The couple kissed once more, sparklers hissing around them, the circle of light closing like an embrace.
Later, when the last guests departed and the meadow grew quiet, the oak tree stood tall under the silver gaze of the moon. The cows settled into sleep, their bells chiming softly, as if whispering lullabies to the earth.
Jacques and Maurizio lingered at the edge of the field, hands entwined. “Do you hear it?” Jacques whispered.
“The silence?” Maurizio asked.
“No,” Jacques smiled, “the future.”
Above them, the constellations stretched eternal, just as love itself endures.
