I watched as the eyes moved closer to the edge of the woods coming into full view. It was a wolf, one with gold underbelly and white fur, it’s red eyes glowing under the sunlight. I tried pulling away when I heard them running up the stairs. It wasn’t until Erik’s hand was placed on my shoulder.

Nothing happens. I feel a hot, steamy breath on my upper back makes me look up and I'm nose to snout with an enormous, spectacularly completely black wolf. Looking into his eyes, they are the bluest I've ever seen, like a waterfall, with white blue flicks in a perfect circular pattern around the pupil. My mate is so beautiful it nearly makes my heart stop.

What was that noise? Different questions flowed through my brain as I slowly opened my eyes to see a black wolf staring down at me. Its eyes were of different colours. One was orange; glowing like an evening sun, calling for me to come closer. The other was a mixture of blue and black, it was so sharp that it warned me to remain on the floor. “I’m not imagining this, right?” My eyelids fluttered rapidly as I stared out the windshield of James’ car. Even through the heavily tinted windows, I could see two massive creatures perched in front of a large, opened gate. The one on the right looked similar to a husky. Its fur was pale grey with patches of darker black coating its back. He had icy blue eyes that were almost white, and I couldn’t peel my eyes away. The one on the right was a larger, chocolate brown colored wolf with yellow eyes.

He was magnificent. His strong jawline became a sharp snout, his broad back turned into a powerful shoulder girdle and sturdy haunches, and his eyes—oh, Goddess, his eyes!. Most wolves had brown or gold eyes in wolf form, but him keeping his initial eye color made him look more regal, more intelligent. Something about seeing that electric blue framed by endless black was just…different. He was nothing short of breathtaking.

“Come to the point. What does my Luna have to do with that scroll?” Gamma Daxon untied the crimson ribbon, unfolding the withered parchment. “This scroll," he announced, "mentions Echo Wolves only once. It appears in the section documenting natural calamities.” The murmurs instantly grew louder. Natural calamities? I stared at him in disbelief. How could Nyx possibly be connected to something like that? Gamma's voice echoed clearly across the silent grounds. “The records describe the Echo Wolf as possessing black fur and crimson eyes, two ominous features existing together. It is considered a warning… And the pack in which the wolf awakes is approaching destruction.”

“Yeah, it looks like it would be painful to put these in your ears, and the backs are on super tight.” “What do they look like?” I ask, envisioning some giant hoops or something. “They’re wolves,” he says. “Golden wolves.” My heart leaps into my chest. “What?” I ask him. “Is that it?” “No… they’ve got jewels on them, Like their eyes. But they don’t match. One has emeralds–” With my heart hammering, I finish for him. “And the other has rubies.”
