“Don’t touch her.” “Watch,” Lunaris said, and pressed her palm forward. Light broke. It did not explode. It bloomed inside Sienna’s ribs, a white flower pushed through bone. The petals were memory and fire and law. Sienna’s breath snapped; her knees softened; her mouth opened not to cry out, to let the light out if it wanted. It didn’t. It spun a slow wheel in her chest and set every nerve to humming. “Sienna,” Ryder said, and his voice tore.

All the work continuing. The record growing. The formation traveling. The roots deepening. The water still. Rising still. Always. Spring here. The light lasting. The lavender about to bloom. The 81 Jade Blossoms fused, forming a massive snow-white orb of light spinning rapidly.

She touches the orange ball of light and now, it is undulating between yellow, orange and red. “Ohhhh,” Blossom says, her eyes huge as she watches her light change colors. “Oh! Me next, me next, please!” Poppy says. Meadow reaches out, touching her light as well. Poppy’s light is blue, so hers begins shifting from lighter to darker shades of blue as we watch.

As we walked away, Lila called out, "Elaya, Serena, I'm not mad that you tricked me into coming here. I forgive you. I'll look after the mentors for you from now on!" She must have thought we were goners. ... Stepping into the Demons' lair, the monsters were drawn to the pure light radiating from Serena and me like moths to a flame.
