I found myself noticing again how tall he was. It always caught me slightly off guard. I finished the last of my notes, my handwriting looping awkwardly as I struggled to keep it neat, then looked up to see if he was ready. That was when it struck me, he would never really be ready. His mind seemed cluttered with half-formed ideas, odd fragments of knowledge, and bits of conversations that never quite found their ending.
