The softness in his voice melted my heart, and I slowly opened the door. My eyes met Luciano’s azure ones, and he sighed with relief. His hair was pushed back and hand-raked, and his half-sleeved shirt showed off the tattoos that covered his arms. An enemy—that was how Dom had described him and that echoed in my head. He was the Capo of ‘Ndrangheta, forbidden for someone like me, someone who had been bound to Cosa Nostra and always would be. I walked past him back into the room, my heart still hammering in my chest. “I’m fine,” I said.

He greeted Dax briefly before being motioned to take a seat beside Silvio.

The blue eyes stared straight out of the coloured etching as if taking in the whole bar and anyone looking back at them. I found the naïve yet somehow suggestive expression quite creepy.
