Charlotte charges forward and this time, I'm right with her.
"Father! Oh, my God. Father..." She drops to her knees beside him and the figure groans again. "Fath... Dad... Can you hear me?"
Michael plays his torch over the face. The groan repeats. An arm comes up, covering the eyes. "The light..." The voice is broken and cracked, the eyes, yellowed hollows in shrunken flesh.
"Michael, Turn your torch off. You too, Charlotte."

"I'll use my phone screen." Flicking my mobile alive, I set it on the ground, behind the prone Klempner's head, out of his line-of-sight, but casting a pale glow over the space.
