But just when I think it’s all over, Adrian grits his teeth and unleashes a burst of lightning that sears through the hydra’s body. The creature screams in agony as it disintegrates into a cloud of ash.

What makes you think you can beat Terra,” laughs mom. “Only one way to find out.” I shift as does uncle Mark. We circle each other, waiting to see who will make the first move. Terra snorts as she makes her eyes glow several colors to throw him off. I can tell he is frustrated and decides to charge me. I internally smile as I snake a vine on the ground and wrap it around his legs. He falls, hitting his chin on the ground.

My stomach tightened instantly. Terra paused again, looking away uneasily now as though she was trying to figure out how to continue without hurting me further. The suspense was unbearable. “Yeah,” I urged. “What about Isis?” Terra swallowed visibly before finally speaking. “You probably already know she's pretending to be Cassandra but that's not all.” Her expression darkened with something that looked disturbingly close to pity. “While her trying to get you punished for her death when she's very much alive should be bad enough, I found out something far worse.”

“Whatever bond existed—it’s gone. I feel it. I only want you. I need you, Seraphina. Please…” She let her fingers brush his. Then she leaned in, placing a gentle kiss on his temple. “You broke me,” she whispered. “But I still find myself… wanting to believe you.” His shoulders sagged with relief. She smiled softly. Perfect. Later, when he left, she wiped the trace of his touch off her skin like poison. Downstairs, she met with Marlyn and unrolled a map of the estate. “We’ll strike next during the quarterly Alpha Summit. He’ll present you as Luna. Selene won’t bear it.”

It’s something new, Alpha Aarhea!” I gulped when I heard what he said. I shoved the chair back and stood, heart hammering. “We’re leaving, Ellias! Now. Get the car ready.” I ordered him.
