“We found him.” --- *Sub-Level 4* The ice door shattered. Not from Kieran. From the _inside_. Standing there was a boy. 12 years old. Black hair to his shoulders. Skin so pale it was blue. Wearing a hospital gown. Bare feet on ice. Not cold. He _was_ cold. Silver eyes. Not molten like Rylan’s. Not fire like Lyra’s. _Absolute zero_. “Project 5,” the boy said. “But my name is _Nero_.”

I added. He didn’t even pack a bag. Now here we are beneath an abandoned warehouse I bought off some desperate meth-head last year, and Nero’s in his element. The guy gets off on pain. Not in a metaphorical tortured-poet way. No, he collects human agony like trophies. If pain had a fan club, Nero would be president, CEO, and the lunatic mascot. He’s circling Barry and Drew, the two cowardly little shits who thought ra.ping my wife and Sierra made them powerful. Now they’re gagged, shaking, and duct-taped to metal chairs, what a bunch of lousy cockroaches.

I could feel it. After the meeting, they all leave the room, but he notices the nerdy girl running to leave the room like she’s trying to chase something. “Der, the entire time you’re staring at that nerd, she’s your type? Your standard change?” Geo teased him. “Come on, Geo. I’m not out of my mind. Besides, that nerd embarrassed me.”

"No, no, you knew nothing!" Ace moved out of his way, still shouting at the top of his lungs. "You think you could hide it forever but I know you! I mean, it makes so much sense. "No, just imagining you to kissing makes me disgusted, and now that I actually saw the scenario, I just want it out of my head. I'm forever traumatized," I said. I stood up straight and rubbed my temple with my eyes closed. Sometimes you just need to take a break from people's imagination.
