She averted her eyes when Elisa kissed Astin’s cheek. “Glad you made it, hija. I thought you wouldn’t come,” Mrs Hernandez said as she welcomed her. “Of course I would, Tita.” Elisa laughed, then greeted everyone. She frowned when she noticed Ira. “Oh, you’re Astin’s secretary, right?” she asked, looking at Ira. Her gaze then moved to the seat beside Astin. Ira gave a tight smile and nodded. She understood that look. Without thinking, she stood and moved to Kiarra’s other side. The seat was free anyway.

I turned sharply, my breath catching in my throat as Elara stepped inside. She moved with quiet confidence, the torchlight flickering against her dark hair. But it wasn’t just the way she entered that left the Elders speechless. It was the way she knelt before them. I froze. Murmurs rippled through the chamber, disbelief thick in the air. “I am Elara,” she said, her voice clear and commanding. “I am the Lunar Alpha.” Silence.
