Elara was trying to absorb everything that this woman was saying, soaking in every word she uttered, and committing it to memory. “Before we begin, is there anyone here with more than 2 parts to themselves? Any tri breeds?” She asked, scanning the group for any raised hands. “That’s you, little one,” Lief whispered to Elara. “Raise your hand.” Elara did, finding herself to be the only one. All eyes were on her now, and she shrunk a bit, feeling very shy. Lief grabbed her hand, feeling her soul changing. Icarus stepped in front of her, slightly blocking her from anyone's view, with a scowl as if to dare anyone to say anything.

Just a symbol. A half-moon over a mirrored flame. “What is it?” Alex inquired. “The last contingency,” Bellion replied. “Elara’s.” “Another lab?” Bellion shook his head. “A name.” He opened the envelope and slid the photo across the table. A girl. Not Harrow. Not me. Younger. Darker. Eyes like fire reflected in water. A serial code was inscribed beneath her image: E-0.0. “Who is she?” I whispered.

But Elias… He was going to make it difficult. I could already feel the spiral starting. The way Zero had talked about him today, laughing, almost curious, planted a tiny seed of doubt. Not in Zero’s love for us. Never that. But in the fragility we were all still healing. Zero had been shattered by Lila. He was only just starting to put himself back together with soft sweaters and campus walks and our hands on his skin. If Elias offered him something that looked like easy healing, something bigger and cleaner than the messy fight we were still waging… Zero might listen. Not because he didn’t love us, but because he was tired of hurting.

She had a minor cut on her neck, but looking at her from head to toe, she was fine. "Lady Elisia!" Zero called. Elisia's eyes widened when she saw Zero and Marcus without any clothes on. "Put something on!" She yelled. "Oh we didn't bring a change of clothes. Don't be bothered. We're always like this after returning to our Terran form." Zero explained. "But it's e-emba—" Elisia paused when she heard a loud growl just a few steps away from her. She turned to look at what it was and saw the black wolf.

Voss, Director of Experimental Continuity Then a list of subjects. E-01 E-02 E-03… Each tagged “Deceased.” Except one. E-07 – Status: Reanimated / Relocated. I open it. A cascade of data floods the screen, genetic strings, brainwave recordings, timestamps. At the bottom is a photo. It’s Elia or at least her face but the metadata says the image was taken six years after her supposed burial. My throat goes dry. Stanley didn’t save her. He reprogrammed her. The woman Liana met, the one I followed across continents was E-07. The “Elia” we saw wasn’t even pretending. She was engineered to believe she was real.

"The moon is still rising, and Sovereign will have seen the failure of Subject Zero. They’ll be sending a tactical team to scrub the site." Elara nodded, her head resting against his shoulder. "I have a place. A private server farm in the old clock factory. It’s off the grid. No Sovereign nodes, no satellite tracking." She looked up at him, a determined glint in her eyes. "We’re going to rewrite the ending of this story, Kaelen. Together." Kaelen looked at her the woman who had traded her crossbow for a computer, and then used that computer to save his soul. He leaned down, pressing one final, lingering kiss to her forehead.

Her eyes darted around frantically, as though she was still searching for another excuse. After Zach’s assistant showed him another video, she completely wilted. The video came from my neighbor’s security camera. It clearly showed that I had never touched Ruby. She had thrown herself into the pile of broken glass. Every vicious thing she said to me while Zach was not around was also captured clearly for everyone to hear. Unable to hold back any longer, Zach shoved Ruby away when she tried to throw herself at him again. “Get out!”

The beats from the music made her remember Damon. She danced harder, screaming again, “Come on! Louder!” She turned too quickly and crashed face-first into a stranger's warm, solid chest. “Shit—sorry!” she gasped, using her hands to balance herself after she hit the stranger. Her waist got caught by strong hands that belonged to a man with big hands and familiar hands. Elena slowly raised her gaze to him. Her heart thudded heavily against her chest. It was him. Damon Voss stood there in the VIP section, looking down at her with dark, burning eyes. His black shirt had the top buttons open, showing smooth, tanned skin and a hint of hard muscle.

ELSA “What do you mean she has to stay here with us?” I ask as I pace the around the room while Leo soys across from me, his legs crossed and his devilishly handsome face poised with something indescribable. “I'm only going to say this once, Elsa,” he gives me a bored look that makes my heart clench before he concludes his statement, “Sarah has been through a lot and I have to be there for her!”
