The woman smirks, her eyes never leaving me. This is getting out of hand. My heart pounds so hard it makes me dizzy. Then Calistus speaks again. “My dear friend,” he says coolly, “not only that, this woman here is my son’s wife.” The older man stiffens. His eyes snap back to me, sharp and assessing. “What?” he asks. The room feels like it might explode. “She is married to Ethan,” Calistus continues. “Legally and publicly.” The older man leans back slowly, studying me like I am a puzzle he does not like.
