He raised his eyebrows slightly and looked at her calmly. "If it's you..." she smiled, "Then of course it would be great. I'll be waiting for you to take care of me in the future.”

I cocked my head at him as we headed for the house. “I just wish I had a normal sister.” James grumbled as he dumped his bag. “And I wish I had a brother that is a liberal who understands we live in the twenty-first century where women aren’t objects and that men who treat them as such are scum, not friends.” I countered, tossing my things down.

“I will do my best with your mother!” Everyone in the audience clapped with approval. Meanwhile, Isaiah looked on dejectedly at the picture-perfect family. It used to be him standing next to Astrid. But now, he has been replaced by the eyesore, Jerome. He was this close to attaining happiness, but he had missed his chance. All he could do now was look from afar. There was no longer room for him. No, he would never give up! He would not give up even if he had turned gray and old!

I can’t deny that today turned out to be a lot better than I originally thought it would be. I was bracing myself for a day filled with chaos and frustration, expecting it to be one of the most awful days ever. But to my surprise, it’s actually been quite easygoing. There’s a sense of comfort in knowing that I’m making progress in finding Dad and securing his safety. The thought of finally seeing him face to face again fills me with anticipation and hope. I can’t wait for that moment to arrive.

“I don’t expect more. I like what we have now and I don’t want to ruin it.” You don’t understand. How could she not expect more? Her expression was sincere. It wasn’t something I expected from her. She didn’t know what she was talking about. It must be the crush talking. What if I couldn’t meet her expectations? What would happen when she realized––I was quick to rein in my thoughts from going there. The hardness in my lower region went down at the thought.

I wonder what it is that has that chilly woman so excited. “We are going to be grandparents! Drake and Stephanie are expecting their first pup!” She chirps, hardly containing her excitement. Everybody stands up, congratulating the pair on their first grand pup. Brjent, as always, has to joke around. Telling them they really are getting old now. Adriana stands a bit on the side, slowly inching closer to the pair. Something bittersweet in her eyes.
