The next few days fly by like a dream. I've learned Dane and Ant are roommates, which explains why they're always together. Dane and I rarely get any alone time. It almost feels like Ant is jealous. I'm not sure of what, but his behavior doesn't feel right to me. Maddy is still annoyed with me for leaving with Dane that night, but she's starting to get over it. Turns out Maddy met her own "Casanova" Saturday night. Frank, Ants buddy, is an interesting guy. He's on the shorter side, about 5'7, golden tanned skin, a shaved head with constant 5 o'clock shadow. Shaking my head at him, I step back to the window, looking out to the snow covered courtyard. Fate doesn't simply give advice. Everything he does it to benefit him, and I'm not about to take anything into consideration until I know why. "I don't need your advice-" "Yes, you do," he snaps, and a flicker of fire seems to dance across his gaze. "Do you know what's going to happen to her after this? What you're going to do?"

But I think the fantasy genre is not for you." Her entire world seemed to shatter in those words. Fantasy was her life, but she had to accept her fate. She took a deep breath, letting all her anxiety out. Suddenly, a smile formed on her lips when she recalled her dad's words he once said to her.

She doesn’t. “What is it?” “I miss her. Isn’t there something we can do to bring her home?” “No. In short. We must vice our time. Things need to happen. Fate needs to take place. Not only her future but those of our future children and children after them.” “Why does fate work like this, Alpha?” Her question mirrors the question I’ve been asking myself for many moons. Fate is the inevitable happenings that are destined long before you can even talk. I wonder who comes up with that bullshit and why.

The idea of the Fates was borrowed but has a change in name for the characters. The Moirae, or Fates, are three old women who are charged with the destinies of all living beings, including heroes and heroines, and these destinies were represented by a string. They were called FATE A, FATE B and FATE C. FATE A would spin the string that represented the life of a living being; FATE B would measure its length to determine the length of that being's life, and FATE C, the eldest, would cut it when the time was right, thus ending with that being's life.

“But yes. They are like sports drinks. And tea.” Abertha relaxing helps me let go a little. Breathe a little deeper. I take a sip from my cup. It’s sweetened with honey. Just how I like it. “First off, it’s not Fate, it’s Fates. Plural. And they aren’t necessarily working together. You’ve got the sports drink Fate who is all about the results. Hydration by whatever means necessary. Pups, pups, pups. That’s all she cares about. But then there’s the tea Fates.”

I say. Fate’s gaze snaps back to me. “Then what is?” I meet his eyes. “Weight.” The word settles like gravity. Fate stiffens. “He acted.” “Yes,” I agree. “And he carried the cost.” Silence hums between us. “He has not yet outweighed.” The realization moves through Fate like a blade. “You mean,” he begins. “Yes,” I say. “He has altered outcomes, but he absorbed the imbalance himself instead of releasing it into the world. The scales remain level for now. The Weave has no justification to bind him.”

“I kind of like the idea that the universe is smiling on the two of us being together. What about you? Do you believe it was fate?” Aiden sipped his wine thoughtfully, his hazel eyes dark with thought. Slowly, he set his glass down and leaned forward as if he were telling me a secret. “Up until a little under three weeks ago, I used to believe that fate was a word that the hopeless used to describe random chance. That fate was just a coward's way of hoping for the future or explaining the past. It didn't have any substance or meaning.” “What happened three weeks ago that changed your mind?”
