He held me so tightly, promising, "I don't believe in fate. I only know that you are the love of my life." I had believed him. Every memory of our love felt vivid, still so close—yet now, he had abandoned me for another woman without a second thought. I didn't understand. Was fate truly something we couldn't fight? Had it really pulled him, irresistibly, into Grace's arms? My whole body ached, each breath felt like fire. I couldn't tell whether the pain came from the wound or from my heart. “Issues? Do all immortals not have their minds in the right place, or are all the immortals I know crazy?” “Mates can be awfully influential,” he admits, rubbing the back of his neck. I’m in complete disbelief. Immortals have lived so long, that changing their mind so quickly doesn’t affect them as much as it would to me. Fate has given up seeking power simply because of his mate, who as far as I’m aware, he isn’t with yet. Fate is known for lacking a mate, with everyone having equal doubt of him ever finding one, so this is a surprise to me.
