Far enough that I could not reach out and hold either of them. Not yet. Maybe not for a long time. That was alright. I had waited four years. I would wait four more if I had to. Because this time... I was not leaving.

He scoffed, “I’m uninterested in someone else’s goddess. I would never have had any thought about her from now on even without you mentioning it.” Nathan put on an enigmatic smile before going over to Faye and staring at her to say gently, “Fifi, we’ve been apart for four years, but you look better than before. I, on the other hand, have gotten much older.” Faye felt awkward under the man’s direct gaze. She dipped her head after a glance up at Nathan as a blush stained her cheeks. “You didn’t exactly change. You haven’t gotten older.” Nathan sighed. “My heart’s gotten older. I’ve been missing you every day these four years.”

Rhea Four Years Later The summer sun beat down warmly on the patio, turning the air golden and sweet. I stood by the large wooden table, folding the last of the tiny, colorful clothes that had just come off the line. Doing Zuri’s laundry had become my favorite kind of quiet. Everything was so small, so soft, carrying the scent of sunshine and lavender detergent. It was hard to believe that four years had already passed since our world changed forever, since everything broke, and somehow, we still managed to build something new from it.

"Why didn't you stay with me a little longer back then? Why did you walk away so easily?" Rico pinched the space between his brows and let out a tired breath, the kind that came from old memories he didn’t care to revisit. “It’s been four years,” he said flatly. “You know the kind of man I am, Leah. “Four years is just like four months.” I tried hard not to smile at his reaction. So priceless. “Oh, no. There’s a lot of history made in four years, Mykel.” “Like what exactly?” He breathed out harshly. “9/11? I’m gonna do some research later.” He annoyedly shook his head and threw my foot on the couch. “Maybe Knox is good for you after all.” “Whoa! Whoa! That’s low, Mykel Creed.” I watched him walk away without hesitation.

3 Four Years Later The kiss was the last moment between them. After that, everything vanished into thin air. Just like she used to say, it would happen, it happened. The moment of forgetting each other came but also brought havoc in her house. That day they were caught by the king’s royal sword of honour when they were sharing the heated moment. She could tell by his look that he resisted killing her. He was taking her up as a whore who wanted to lure the golden hen for her benefit.

The drink in my hand was suddenly something I needed to put down before I did something with it. Four years. She had been with this man for four years.
