“Ryan.” He stood, walked up behind me, hands sliding to my waist. His voice dropped. “Just one more round.” I leaned back against him for a second, tempted—really tempted—then shook my head. “No. Gavin will already be waiting, and if we’re late, he’ll pretend not to care but absolutely care.” Ryan paused. “Gavin.” “Yeah. My best friend. I’ve told you about him.” He scoffed lightly, grabbing his jeans. “You’ve told me enough.”

Gavin's pov "Of course, I will help! Fabian will lead a squadron of combatants from Garnet Cave. They will arrive at your pack by sunset. I'll give you my word." "Thank you, Alpha. I will forever be grateful for your assistance," I replied on the phone. "Michael has gone too far. Kidnapping her means war, Gavin. She is beloved by all of us. I can't believe that he is my son's close friend," he sighed.

“Gavin…I don’t know how to thank you for all this. I couldn’t even begin to–” He waved a hand and cut me off with a wink. “Hey, none of that. Isn’t the point of having friends to help each other out?” I wasn’t good enough with words to explain just how wonderful a friend he was to me; instead, I squashed him in a hug that hopefully said some of what I couldn’t. Gavin laughed and squeezed me back. “You two are worth it. Even if you’ve got running around doing all the legwork while you keep your secrets!”

Why do things always have to happen at the wrong time? “I’m Knight.” I was shocked at the sarcasm and anger in his voice. Damn it! I know he’s mad. And double damn it! I’m dead! I noticed Gavin’s hand out of my waist and I took that time to step away from him. Hell, what was I doing near him anyway? “I’m Gavin. Ashejan’s friend.” I was actually relieved that he introduced himself as a friend and not like how Jericho or Phytos would. Those two are the hopeless cases. At least Jervic could be treated.

I exclaimed and he nodded. "He's one of our top warriors. Just like your friend, Gavin is one of your packs top warriors?" he added and I nodded. "You sure seem to attract some tough guys, baby" he said and I frowned. "Gavin and Eddie are just friends. Don't start. I already hear it enough from Troy and Jon" I snapped. He glared at me. "Speaking of, Jon... You never did explain what your relationship is with him" he pressed. I sighed. I might as well tell him the truth.

My heart thunders in my chest as I speak at a high speed, my words stringing together in an almost mumble. I hear Gavin almost coo at my apology, “ It’s been years, Jean. I didn’t expect you to remember so it’s fine. Please don’t worry about it.” But I do worry about it. “How could I ever repay you?” “For what?” comes Gavin’s swift reply. “For this. For helping me back then, for helping me now. For saving my sister, for… for being my friend.” Friend. Yes, Gavin is a friend. A friend I’d love to keep.

Instead of answering, she threw the question back at her friend. “Come on! Gavin is really famous because he’s also a member of the UHB Leisure Club. You, on the other hand, are always hard to invite to our meet-ups because you’re always busy. So, you miss out on our gossip sessions. Girl, Gavin’s entrance was epic, huh? He was like your Knight in shining armor that night,” Galilena said, clearly thrilled. “Even I was shocked by his move. It seems like you two are close? Because Gavin knows what happened between you and Orion.”

“New York, I’m back for you, baby.” Time to shake off all the stress from his little hiking adventure. He was ready for fun now. He pulled out his phone again and called his friends. The line connected, and cheerful voices greeted him. “Gav! You back already?” one of them asked. “Yeah,” Gavin said with a grin. “And I need a night out. Something nice. Tall, hot, blonde, and very... You know exactly how I like it.” The boys on the other side of the line roared with laughter.

It was my lifelong best friend Gavin, looking nervous. I set aside the bat, pretended to be half-asleep, and opened the door. He looked at me, his eyes wide with shock, as if he had just seen something horrifying. "You show up at my place in the middle of the night, someone after you for money?" I let out a yawn, pulled him inside, and poured him a glass of cool water, placing it beside him. Gavin grabbed the glass and drained it in one go, even licking the last drops from the sides.

Gavin's friend sits next to Leon while Gavin takes the seat next to me. I still feel the tension in the air. Leon looks at the two men, a mixture of surprise and excitement shown by his expression. “I would really love for us to talk, Leon, because it seems we would agree on so many things,” says Gavin's friend after the table is settled. “How do you know my name?” Leon asks him. “Well, let's just say, I know people,” he answers. Gavin on the other hand gives me a glance, before his lips curve into a smile. I fight the urge to get lost in that beautiful smile.
