“Good. Just in time.” As night fell, the two of them rode into a clearing beyond the great forest. In its clear center stood a large tree, a giant and ancient thing, its bark gnarled and twisted like flesh bent under the hands of a supernatural torturer. From the shadows beneath it Drust emerged to greet them. “Ah, those with courage to ride in the fresh night, I salute you,” Drust called out, his arms moving up a little swathed in his robe. Ragala whispered to Weaver, “This one is dark, mistress. Very dark indeed. His soul is black enough to hide the stars.”

She should’ve traded with Zane and sat where she had a worse view, in the middle. The vehicles had come from some wealthy donors who were interested in seeing LIGHTS put a complete end to the Vampires. Like cockroaches who had hidden away until after the blasting was over, they were crawling out from beneath rocks and out of holes, ready to flex their muscles since the most dangerous part of the Revelation appeared to be over.

Lucas said. “If none of us are expecting retaliation, then we’re dumber than we look.” I said. But he just scoffed. It took a while to find the equipment that I needed to make an affective bomb but when it was finally finished I looked at the time and it was cutting it really close to sunset. So we headed back to the cabin and I looked in that window again. Most of the vampires were asleep from what I could tell and I placed two separate devices. One at the front door and one at the back door.

' "Okay baby, goodnight." I was curled up on the sofa as I watched a VHS of me and my mother while she was giving me an impromptu poem, it was our bedtime story. Her poems eased me, they gave me comfort and ease. They prevent me from having nightmares, so dad records them so when mom is not around dad could just play it on and on and on. I swallowed the lump in my throat when mom and dad kissed me goodnight, my father took the camera to the bed and we waved goodbye.

That month's electricity bill was 380 dollars. I stared at that number for a full minute. 380 dollars? How was it possible for me to use that much electricity when I lived alone? Then, it hit me. I thought about the faucet turning itself on, the TV lighting up in the middle of the night, and those damned home-cooked meals that magically appeared every single day. Did all these paranormal events run on my power?

The whispers and side talks were becoming too much. I could see my brother from the corner of my eye dragging my mom away persuading her to continue the party with him. I rushed into my room and locked the door and lay on the ground. Elektra just kept looking at me from a distance. But the ceiling glowed with the fake constellation of the planets and stars. It was calming.
