I just gave a soft nod. “But sometimes, it’s the absence that gives things meaning,” I said, “death makes life meaningful. Sadness makes happiness meaningful.”
Gerard smiled. “I forgot I was speaking to an art genius.”
“I'm not all that.” The smile lingered on my lips.
Gerard paused. “Do you think you can’t be a genius because you’re a Recessive?”
My body went rigid.
“ My IQ test came out, and I was 135. That’s not genius.” Something broke in his voice. “Even with the drugs I created, I had to work with other people. I couldn’t do it all on my own.”
